I may be reading this wrong. It sounds to me you are comparing mortgage interest deduction against the standard deduction. I can’t use mine either.
But why can‘t you use it as a business expense. It’s 100% an office and reduce your taxable income.

I do my own taxes. It is a pain but I need to know how I am being taxed.
As a business, track expenses… looking for the right word here… I dunno, but something pejorative.
It’s not hard. Just boring. Keep a running tax obligation all year. Update twice a month.

We hardly used it - a bit at Guadalcanal and other places.
