Grumpy ex BBC news editor and freelance reporter now in his dotage but still earning an occasional crust. Along with Mrs D, owner of Breagha a wonderful rescued Rommie. Lousy golfer (me not the dog).

My dear old mum used to describe mine as being like “the hen’s march to the midden”.

My handwriting has always been bordering on indecipherable but it’s good to present my very occasional correspondents with a wee challenge. On the other hand Mrs D’s is bordering on copper plate.

Both my timelines on Twitter are full of the Trump/Musk shit this morning. Makes me want to 🤮. I’m out of there for a while. A thoroughly depressing start to my 78th year on this planet.

I knew an Elgin farmer whose responsibility as a child was to look after a “pet” bull called Angus. One Sunday the family sat down to a roast beef lunch. “This is delicious” said the young Jim. “That’s Angus” said his mum. Eat up. It was wee Jim’s first important lesson in the realities of farming.

When I saw her for the first time in CPH I couldn’t get over how small she was. Somehow I had imagined an Amazonian creature standing guard over the harbour entrance guiding sailors home to a safe haven. Not.

Welcome back. There’s definitely a piece to be written about living for five days without access to the internet.

There are some pretty good sunrises as well. This was earlier this month. One of our favourite places to escape to.

Such a beautiful stretch of coastline from Berwick-upon-Tweed down to Alnmouth (which is our favourite UK holiday escape).

Almost 30 years on Medusa is still one of my go to albums - the haunting “No More I Love You’s” - probably my favourite track on it.
