Hard disagree. This WAS the best performance.
I find it hard to understand all the pushback when consistent Cate is great in another drama, while Michelle showcases her prowess at comedy, drama and action in a rare outing.
The politics rubbish is offensive. This performance merited the win.

The deserved winner. This isn't Best Picture. I scratch my head at all the discourse because none of the nominees are giving all-time greatest work.
Meryl has Maggie down to a T. The scenes of older Maggie in particular are rather special.
Boo Maggie Thatcher. Yay Meryl Streep.

100 days? Is that all? Feels much longer. π¬

I always hate the "better than nothing" attitude. Still not good enough.
If a human being thinks another human being should have less rights than them (when they haven't committed heinous crimes) then that human being can get fucked.

Oh. I wonder how that happened. On my very thorough Wiki search, it said it was released in November 49. I guess not in LA?

'Adam's Rib' would've been in the 49 race anyway.

I so wish Elisabeth Hartman won for her delicate performance in 'A Patch of Blue,' my favourite B/W film.

This is one of those times when I'm happy for the winner, but I wanted someone else to take it.

I don't think this is the right attitude to have, God.

Mine too. I think she's incredible.

Leslie Caron is sensational in a rather difficult role. I remember listening to the wonderful Kevin Jacobson in his podcast talk about this performance as "passive" in a negative sense, then watching an interview with Leslie were she uses that exact word to describe the character. It was the point.

I counted and it looks like you agreed with the academy only 34 times. You must be routinely disappointed.

I'm gonna miss it. I've been listening since the very first episode. It's been exciting going in wondering if I'm going to agree with your thoughts or disagree with each nominee. There's been a few times when I've revisited a film with the better half because you've mentioned it. Thanks for this. π«Άπ»

It's one of the few shows I actually watch and love. The humour, the drama, the intrigue, the perfect cast, the detailed writing that doesn't spell everything out to an audience and then THE MUSIC. Chef's kiss.

I think the poster got mixed up with the 1935 write-in ballot to allow Bette Davis to compete.
There was no write-in allowed by the time of the Audrey/Julie affair.
