The kid read her first real book front to back with limited assistance tonight. This is a well done children’s book because it is a meaningful story with accessible and repetitive vocabulary to build confidence. Would recommend 10/10. She was very proud of herself 🔥

In learning theory, this is covered by zone of proximal development (Vygotsky) among others. There has to be cognitive effort in between not knowing anything & mastery or you don’t actually end up learning anything new. You also can’t check to see if what it’s doing for you is accurate.

once your brain is fully developed at ~age 25-ish it will begin a culling of synapse connections it feels it doesn’t need anymore. this phase doesn’t stop, it’s lifelong, and once you lose those connections they’re just gone. depending on LLMs will prevent your brain from remaining healthy and sharp
