"template cloning"? you mean for the DOM? if so, I'm a bit lost, how's that related to this optimization?

solid makes some distinctions like this, kinda. but it's a different model, there's no diffing unless some part of the prop keys is dynamic (e.g. ...getProps()) so I'm not sure it'll be too useful for your rabbit hole :P

100% like a big part of having "expertise" on something that's an abstraction layer is 1. being familiar with what's beneath it and 2. knowing when and when not to reach for it (and go with lower layers instead)

apparently being proficient in React means brainlessly using it for everything?
useSum(2, 3) >>> 2+3
lol
comment in response to
post
it wasn't just that, but the rest of the reasons given were all similar in that they involved not immediately using React for absolutely everything and instead keeping it simple and relying on the web platform unless necessary (and without going against idiomatic React of course).

I got penalized in a React interview and ultimately got a lower offer for leaving a form uncontrolled and reaching for on submit instead of immediately making every field controlled lmao.
"wasn't proficient in React" some people consider me a literal expert but ok.

true, it's just that I went down this route of shaving bits some time ago, and found out that some changes actually result in more gzipped bytes :P

in @ariakit.org the plan is to transition to native browser APIs as they become more stable and available, with polyfilling options and such.
it's very cool because it means Ariakit is meant to shrink overtime in size.

I publish once or twice a year and I haven't gotten around to it yet in 2025, because each post has dozens of hours of work behind it. I hope this doesn't disqualify me!

I wonder how difficult this would be to implement properly in Astro though. maybe there's a sane way to make it all part of the same root. portals, maybe?

interestingly, among all the slop I did get one of these once in which the sender genuinely knew what I had been up to with a surprising amount of detail.
it was nice and led me to actually go through their process, though I ultimately did decline their offer.

this is so fucked, sorry to hear man.
you might not remember but we had some chats on the bad site (DMs) about a project I was developing based on an idea of yours (CSS variable graph inspector).
I really enjoyed those, it was pretty fun.
hang in there 🩵
