Love this!! I’ve been getting into cross stitch and embroidery lately. I had one project not too dissimilar from this that said “I Can’t Adult Today” 😂

I hear you. For me, it’s been finding things that keep my mind occupied but not fatigued (and without a screen). I’ve gotten really into cross stitch and embroidery. I’m also enjoying tending to my yard with a podcast on. Rock climbing has also been simultaneously physical and meditative for me ❤️

I’ve never heard of this before and it sounds amazing! Thank you for sharing this! ❤️

It makes sense that’s what you’re seeing online. I know my current company is slowing down hiring and I hear others are as well.

And agreed, I know companies are tightening up while also raising the bar for entry. I feel like not every opportunity ends up on a job board anymore so I feel like the gems are harder to find (my gut feeling, could be wrong)

I would love to get closer to the robotics space! I think tech is still figuring out how to operate with AI disruption but robotics seems solid.

I liked the way a friend of mine put it - “Time is money, and every day I pay myself first” ❤️
I’ve always wanted to do this but I also want as much as sleep as possible before work begins so it’s a struggle 😂

It can feel bittersweet leaving something behind for something new. Excited for you! I love hearing about folks finding new things these days. I’ve been too scared to look at the market but maybe it’s turning around

Thanks for the validation here!
I didn’t put much thought into a manager asking the team to list out what they were working on, but I’ve seen it happen many times. This was during times where clear goals were hard to come by, so this makes sense.

Omg I’m an idiot. I thought this was a tech thing, not a Musk thing. Getting my feeds mixed up 😅 I scrolled more and saw all the news about it, my apologies!!

I’m asking this genuinely - is this considered bad because there should be other processes in place? Standups? Weekly checkpoints? I’ve had a manager imply they didn’t know where my time was going or what I did that week and it really caught me off guard (which felt like the point in retrospect).

“… depriving workers of the opportunity to use their judgement left their cognitive function "atrophied and unprepared" to deal with anything beyond the routine.”
Yup! I read somewhere that businesses don’t care about hiring or ramping up great engineers, just fast outcomes. We’re sprinting to that!

I’ll be honest, if I don’t finish watching the new season of Love Is Blind before it actually cancels, I may be in trouble 😬 But! I took the first step so I’m proud lol

It certainly can help one to get unstuck and keep momentum going towards solving a bigger problem. It can be a really powerful tool. But how often we use that tool, and why, starts to feel like more of a crutch perhaps

It’s been helpful to do tasks I don’t enjoy like quickly spinning up the infrastructure for tests. I know how, I just find it tedious. But I’m not great at Typescript generics so I use AI to help me there too. I’ve made no progress in sharpening skills there but the PRs go up faster 😬

😭 we all did the photo dumps in college. We couldn’t help ourselves. Then came Instagram 💀

“atone for the traction I’ve given these platforms”
Damn that’s quotable and resonates with me!

For me, if something goes viral on any platform, I’ll see it bubble up on reddit so I just lurk over there 👀

It’s tough. My company is mandating 100% adoption of AI tools for eng. It does speed up my workflow and therefore is valuable to the business. But I feel like it’s softening if not rotting my skills over time. I’m senior but worry for the future of junior eng. Or, is prompt engineering the future?

Thanks! So far I prefer Flashes. They have an edge because more people are using bsky so it’s easier to find accounts to follow there. There are probably more serious photography enthusiasts on Pixelfed but not as many people so it’s hard to feel engaged (for me).

He’s just telling on himself again. He’s not actually talking about what real people who WFH do. He’s talking about what HE would do

This resonated with me so much, but why are we like this? Why are we all keeping empty boxes?? 🫠

Exactly! I get people are exhausted and feeling cynical, but I’m really tired of seeing folks discouraging others from trying to do something. Doing nothing is worse.

The Black folks at my job put together an unofficial check in though and that was healing for me. Again, unofficial.
Nothing of substance from any authority or leader at my job. Just sprint planning and tickets as usual

2025 began with:
CPO said they acknowledge things are happening and will report back how that affects us, but we ALL belong.
CEO said they’re feeling SO ENERGIZED about AI.
CTO said removing unlimited PTO for flexible PTO with a “guide” on maximums is totally not a change from unlimited PTO.
🥴
