He lies daily. He is constantly confused and gets his facts wrong. If this was given a hard focus and explanations demanded every time - (confused or deliberate?) you could put pressure on his every single word within a fortnight. The narrative is right there. Is he lying or is it something else?
comment in response to post
Sorry, not sure what BC is. Could you clarify? What I’m saying is that if lies are presented as truth, that should be answered to and not simply shrugged away. Perhaps you disagree.
comment in response to post
This is how you nail him. Every falsehood he speaks you ask them if it was an outright knowing lie or if he was just confused. Liar or confused old man. Which is it? Demand they answer every single time he says something that is wrong. Create a narrative.

I feel that all of the talk about Biden’s mental health gives Democrats an open goal. Every provable falsehood that Trump makes should have them demanding to know - did he lie, was he confused or did he just forget about what he was talking about? Every. Single. Time. Don’t let it go. Not once.

The more I think about it Jack Lemmon would have been the absolute best. You could have paired him with any of the Muppets in any scene and it would have been brilliant. Jack Lemmon and Miss Piggy? Jack Lemmon and Fozzy? Jack Lemmon and GONZO??? Come on....
comment in response to post
Can't believe nobody has said Jack Lemmon. He would have been in his element.

If your entire focus is on making life better for wealthy old men, I guess that (subconsciously?) the least important people must be economically disadvantaged young girls. Their problems are the most trivial to them.

Define "crass" in one picture...

Graphically it makes me think of the horrible pictures of the tsunami where people were stood on the beach and in the distance you can start to see a long white line approaching and boats being tossed in the air.

I was not equating Zelensky with Grima Wormtongue in any way there, more the dark figures around him in the White House. Just to be clear.
comment in response to post
He genuinely seems like a confused old man. Policy seems to hinge largely on whoever he last spoke to. Not sure he knows what much of his govt policy is. Reminds me of Theoden in LOTR with Grima Wormtongue whispering in his ear. Accept that Theoden wasn't a c*nt.

If I was a pathological bully who had spent my whole life taking enjoyment from hurting those who were weaker than me and them became the most powerful man on the planet, this is pretty much exactly how I would be getting my jollies. Bullying the ENTIRE planet, what a RUSH.....

I’m still dining out on your enthalpy of solution knowledge whenever a pink wafer is around. Eternally grateful 🙂

Seems to me the thing about Trump supporters is that they actually WANT to believe what he tells them. They WANT it to be true. That means that evidence to the contrary must be summarily dismissed as a lie or avoided altogether. It’s why the idea of FAKE NEWS is such a brilliant and simple defence.

The "logic-washing" days are over. The "don't take his words at face value" apologists are looking pretty stupid now. That only worked when he was surrounded by actual adults telling him "No" all the time. If he says something batshit crazy we'd better take him at his word, the adults have all gone.

If agents of Russia got into positions of power in the US and were given a short window to destroy America economically, culturally, diplomatically and militarily before they got discovered, it wouldn’t look any different to this. Intentional or not, Trump’s administration is a US wrecking ball.

Hadn’t really dwelled on who I had replied to when I thought of the bit in that song that I was talking about. Played it while I was making breakfast for my son and realised that you would sing it quite beautifully. Better than me anyway…

m.youtube.com/watch?v=iLQS... I also love the countryside sounds in this. Beautiful song as well of course.
comment in response to post
I’m a “sounds of the countryside” man every time. Have been since they started playing it as a form of test card for a new radio station back in the very early 90’s. Tbh I could listen to the church bells at the start of Sensual World all night. Trains pretty good though!

She’s leaving home - “She breaks down and cries to her husband, Daddy - our baby’s gone”. The sorrow of that line punches me in the gut every time

I wouldn’t back Boycott to score 150 for my life, but if it was for his own life? Boycs every time.

Something about the way that is written which is making me hear it as “Who is the Defense Secretary? Is it Penry the mild mannered janitor…?”. Maybe Trump could announce his next appointments in the style of the Hong Kong Phooey intro just for the crack.

Surely this is major news in the “is it a biscuit / is it a cake?” debate…

Biscuit update. Made tea, and offered pink wafers. Was immediately asked why I was looking so pleased with myself (rubbish at poker). Talked wafer science over a cup of tea and my girls humoured me delightfully. They were pleased for me I think, they knew this has long troubled me. Love my girls.

Never seen this before but it’s a great idea. Will have to tell my Dad about it, he is 85 and will absolutely love calling me every night with the answer. So a mixed blessing.

That right there is a cracking night out.

I think of someone saying this to my daughters and I get Vincent Vega ringing in my head “Boy, I wish I could've caught him doing it. I'd have given anything to catch that a**hole doing it. It'd been worth him doing it just so I could've caught him doing it.”

“Enthalpy of solution”…brilliant stuff!!!

Holy cow! That’s a brilliant answer. I’m going to put a plate of them out on the table this morning and casually raise the question with my teenage daughters. They can’t fail to be impressed by their Dad’s knowledge of pink wafer science. Many thanks (and apologies for misspelling your name!)

So while we are on the topic of pink wafers, why are they always kind of cold when you bite into them? Straight off the shelf on a hot day, no matter. Or is this just me? Dr Darcy, your opinion would be welcome.

Wow, what an amazing set of pictures. Never seen them before and really brightened an otherwise dull lunch break. Thanks for posting them.

I am sure that this exact ratio explains much of World history. It should have a scientific term. Perhaps the “Arsehole Constant”.

Have had the same thought for a while. Also wondering to what degree the influx of people crossing the Channel for a better life will be matched by a similar influx crossing the Atlantic looking for a better life.

100%. Historically the “disengaged” only got involved when they faced actual problems (hyperinflation, food shortages etc). Now they are engaging because of “perceived” problems spread on social media (vaccines, immigrants, deep state). I think Musk twigged this. Fear is a powerful tool.
comment in response to post
The 52% has perhaps never really changed. Many of them were the ones who didn’t engage in politics unless times were really bad. We all knew them, and frankly nobody cared that they couldn’t be bothered to vote. Social media seems to have changed that. They are engaging and we are finding out.

Just a very long awkward silence and then an “anyway must get on, good to see you…”. It was the height of the Peaky Blinders thing. My wife reminds me of it every Christmas.

I was at a Christmas light turning on evening when we bumped into a family we vaguely knew. The two young boys were in flat caps and waistcoats and I greeted them with “Oh! And who are these little Victorian urchins?”. It was not a Victorian themed evening and they were not in fancy dress.

At about the same time that pretending to care about democracy and the rule of law serves no useful purpose anymore.

Taxing billionaires to leave them as mere multi-millionaires and using 100% of the money raised to invest in health and education would (I suspect) have majority support in every democracy around the World. Perhaps this is why some billionaires seem to be so drawn towards wealthy authoritarians?

Feel very much the same about lasers. Oh sure, they are used widely in industry for all kinds of critical functions, but was that really what we anticipated from them? If you can’t set it to “stun” it’s barely worthy of the name IMHO.
