Nicely written! This was my first IndyCar race watch. As a newcomer to racing thanks to F1, I thought I’d know enough to keep up, but it was a struggle. It seems Fox spent most of their money on onscreen talent and grid walk celeb cameos, and not enough on the production team and analysts.

And yet the cook’s intervention, and generosity became part of the solution. Yes, I could have changed the tire on my own, but thanks to his kindness, I was on my way in half the time, and with some renewed faith in the human condition. The good is still out there, but you gotta get out and find it.

After I struggled a bit with the crappy emergency jack, and the weird spare tire (Audi Q5 - YouTube it), the short order cook came out from the Denny’s, and helped me with a proper jack he had in his trunk…
