This is exactly right. They think they can handle the violence and think they want the violence. But when they are actually confronted with the violence they collapse

I don't want martial law, but we are not a country that can be controlled by it. We are too big and spread out. It may work in some of the eastern block countries (although that may yet crumble) but in the long run, it will not work here with any sort of resistance.
