Careful guys, if you don’t control migration you might turn out like <checks notes> the greatest, wealthiest city in the world.

it seems the Trump admin is going to turn the National Science Foundation headquarters into a personal mansion for HUD secretary Scott Turner talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/natio...

good summary

the streak continues: @wired.com's insanely great journalism that shows dc reporters how it's done.

a moment of silence, please, for bloomberg's millions of dollars and ackman's millions of words. www.businessinsider.com/billionaires...

this is big. let's take the wins where we find them.

not used to this, but @briefingwithpsaki.bsky.social had a really good piece last night on miller and his financial interest in palantir and the ice round-up. it spotlighted this report by @pogo.org, which was released on monday www.pogo.org/investigatio...

expecting and hoping for a significant deputy mayorship for lander in a mamdani administration.

In the words of Nelson Mandela: it always seems impossible until it’s done. My friends, it is done. And you are the ones who did it. I am honored to be your Democratic nominee for the Mayor of New York City.

More from Sotomayor's dissent in this horrific SCOTUS ruling: "By rewarding lawlessness, the Court once again undermines that foundational principle. Apparently, the Court finds the idea that thousands will suffer violence in farflung locales more palatable than

The temperature at JFK Airport has reached 101° F as of 12:30pm today. This breaks the previous monthly record of 99° F, making today the hottest June day on record at that climate station.

"Think of the MAGA majority’s shoddy arguments as a flex, a reminder that five (or six) justices are above accountability. That’s the real legacy of the Roberts Court: a steady erosion of rights dressed up as freedom, with little care as to whether their positions are coherent." — @snipy.bsky.social

A fantastic fact-filled video about the US Senate plan in the Big Beautiful Bill to sell off a minimum of 2 MILLION acres of public lands www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rjj...

gotta give mamdani credit - doesn't dodge it, goes with mets, concedes he's not a die-hard. this passes for candor in any race, especially in new york city.

Map: All 250 million acres of public land the Trump budget bill would sell off. If passed, the bill would likely be “largest single sale of national public lands in modern history.”

Today’s unsigned, unexplained #SCOTUS ruling clearing the way for removals of migrants to third countries without any additional process is a disaster—not just on the merits, but because of the government misbehavior that it not only refuses to punish, but effectively rewards. Me, via “One First”:

tuesday, week 23, day 156 last week: scotus backs tennessee ban on gender-affirming surgery, 6-3 senate panel backs bill to mandate sale of 2 million public acres, maybe the largest land privatization ever; and of course, the unauthorized act-of-war bombing of iran this week: more criming

The US Supreme Court rules that there is no law and there is no constitution

according to conservatives on the court, the constitution does not protect your right to your own body but does enable the government to ship you off to a foreign gulag without any hope of return

Remember when people were saying: “the courts are the last line of defense!” There was never a long-term line of defense. With the Supreme Court compromised, and we know that it is, major decisions like this will continue to happen. If you aren’t preparing for a general strike, start now.

I didn’t have the Supreme Court destroying the authority of federal district courts on my bingo card. But in retrospect that’s perhaps where all this shadow docket decision-making was going all along. Really scary stuff.

Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” lands a $1 billion tax break for Big Oil as EPA staff are told to “pause” oil and gas enforcement. Broadcast networks should give the scandal the attention it deserves.

elect criminals, expect a crime wave

So much for “one and done.”

Vitally important point from one of the most important experts you can follow given the times in which we live, @jonatomic.bsky.social.

well, for once he really did take action within two weeks.

AOC: “It is absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment.”

Much as I would not dare to predict the consequences of this war, I do think we can summarize it thusly so far: A smart and evil man manipulated a stupid and evil man into a war against a fanatical and evil regime.

solstice was around 10:40 last night, so this is the first (full) day of summer. cheers to all who observe! i'd expect to see more seasonal nods, but i guess everyone's too busy scrambling over whatever fresh hell we must deal with.

now that solstice has passed we can start lamenting how fast the summer is whizzing by.

"The public...deserves the truth. The administration has accused historians of writing and teaching about forms of 'shame' in American history. The only shame to be found in this controversy emanates from the desk of the Secretary of the Interior." @oah.org, on sanitizing history at NPS sites 🗃️

I just have to say, as a historian of the Reconstruction-era Klan, that masked paramilitaries are very bad and masked vigilantes are even worse and there are causal links between the two and none of this is good for democracy.
