I remember it happening. I started to remember news stories in 1967/8 like Six Day War, Invasion of Czechoslovakia, Apollo and that when I was 8.

Sickening.

Colours must be overdue for a revival, the reds, yellows, oranges, blues and greens of the 70s and 80s. I’ve noticed a few of late.

I remember seeing it, being intrigued by why it was much talked about but not actually reading it.

I went on it in 1972 when it already seemed very ancient even though it was still in regular BR service only 7 years earlier. Now 53 years have passed!

A good six more volumes to come, no doubt. Reminds me that I’ve yet to read books 4-5 of the Barchester Chronicles.

As I suspected, I see the primary aim was to protect the wearer from STDs rather than as a contraceptive.

Luckily we still have ours and it’s baking as an official warm spot. You can make a cup of tea too.

Nor EVIIR, GVR to name but a few other royals. Churchill and Boris Johnson would also be excluded.

I went there in 1982 so I don’t remember much about it, only that it is beautiful. I stayed in the YH and took the train up to Kyle and Thurso to pass through the spectacular landscape. I guess a return to Kyle and back in a day should be doable. It’s the more impressive rail trip.

My sons have already done their bit in the Airforce section of the CCF. They got to fire real guns and did lots of drill. I don’t think they will want to be drafted into Starmer’s Army, thank you.

Behind the driver on the diesel multiple unit was fun too as long as they kept the blinds up.

That or overlooking the bonnet to the left of the driver if you had to sit downstairs on a LT Green RT in 1960s. Lots of interesting noises and gear changes.

With Elvis Presley and George II as case studies!

Yes, the University library in 1978 with the only hint of technological innovation being the plastic punch hole cards to gain access.

Age defying views, 65 and a ‘very bad idea’ view. Why do the old want to kill the young?

When I visit my 92 year old mother I always use the extra stair rail installed for my later father. Her stairs are lethal, although once they were mine too.

You’re correct of course but I’m 65 and I find the inability of the NHS to use up to date tech very frustrating. They tend to use a mixture of technologies, letter, text, telephone, all at once. When they ring from a ward phone extension, modern phones block the call.

When I first went in 1982 I was conscious that the previous two generations got caught up in wars when they were my age.

I didn’t know it was on a different date to the UK, a week later but only occasionally coinciding with the late lamented common Whit Monday. Bad weather seems to be a constant!

Only for the rich, the rest of us had to make do with the long wobbly walk to the buffet car to buy a cup of tea and a good old BR sandwich and then walk back trying not to spill everything.

Sounds a bit too much like “Back to Basics” where politicians with dodgy personal lives get all moralistic with the rest of us.
