I’m not surprised by Trump and the Republicans using troops to attack Americans in Los Angeles given that the most dangerous time in any family’s life is when they try to leave an abusive relationship with a Republican husband.

It is completely unlawful for ICE to turn away members of Congress like this. The law could not be more clear; no member of Congress may be denied access to a facility where ICE is detaining someone, and they cannot be required to schedule in advance. Surprise inspections must be surprise.

What the actual fuck?

trying to enforce “messaging discipline” is fine for representatives of large organizations but is an exercise in futility when you are requesting it from every single member of the general public—many of whom do not possess the same interests, values, and understanding of the world.

I've made this point multiple times before but if Bluesky wants to grow, the things they need aren't opinion pundits but accounts that publish new information. That's breaking news reporters, politicians and stuff like official organization accounts that publish official statements.

I realize that this is almost worn out at this point (which is itself pretty wild) but “the executive took over 2000 troops in violation of the only statute he cited and the local police are shooting reporters” is the sort of thing for which “imagine if this happened in another country” was coined

Richie Torres feels that only a Cuomo win in NYC is the necessary context for him to run as a black, rainbow draped, self-hating gentile genocide supporter for NYS governor. He is probably right. Don't rank Cuomo.

The California situation shows both why Cuomo is winning & why it would be a disaster if he did: New York is next & they need a serious fighter, not smarmy salesman like Newsom

Outside observers are hoping that the United States of America will look to the western nations like Mexico and adopt strong democratic institutions with checks on police power and their presidential executive

"My name is Greta Thunberg and I am from Sweden. If you see this video, we have been intercepted and kidnapped in international waters by the Israeli occupational forces, or forces that support Israel."

They will invent the pretext unless we’re so thoroughly supine they don’t need to, which leads to the same outcome.

They should keep going back and bring more. ICE has no right to turn them away .

BREAKING The administration of California Governor Gavin Newsom is asking Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to rescind his order and return the National Guard to the control of the State of California.

Welcome to "The Occupation," exclusively on Paramount, from DJT Productions

LEARN FROM HONG KONG. they lost. but they were fighting against truly impossible odds and did it anyways. we aren't there yet.

I see posts saying protesters aren't brutalized under Dems. I guess right-wingers aren't the only ones fantasizing about a mythical past. I was brutalized at protests under Obama. Folks were brutalized at protests under Biden. We can condemn the escalations of the present w out fetishizing the past.

It's especially egregious since what happened was ICE started firing tear gas ON RANDOM PEOPLE who they forced into a traffic jam. The people of LA didn't even expect to be protesting anything that day and found themselves in a standoff with ICE, kettled by the LAPD. Please, liberals, STFU!

Union leaders are calling for a strike to shut down LA. 🔥

They're tear-gassing babies in strollers and elderly Chicano community leaders in Los Angeles. This is a completely peaceful march.

Dem Leadership fails to understand that it's always their responsibility to protect their constituents. Sometimes, that means protecting their constituents from Law Enforcement. Support for meaningful civilian control over heavy armed paramilitary forces & police arms stockpile reductions wd help.

“There are many grandmas and Rachel Maddow viewers who have been more vocal in this moment than Barack Obama has. It is heartbreaking to see him sacrificing that megaphone when nobody else quite has it.” YES www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

"If you got arrested then you weren't protesting peacefully" is a lie. Stop spreading it.

I just gonna go ahead and say that putting active duty United States Marines on the streets of an American city is, in fact, heavy handed.

I'm imagining ICE doing to NYC what it's doing to LA — and the people of NYC responding the way people are in LA — and it all happening under Mayor Cuomo. He'll side with ICE, DHS and, of course, the NYPD. This man, who hates the city and doesn't live here, can not become mayor. Don't rank him.

We don't have secret police in America. At least we're not supposed to.

Have national Dems, who claim to want to "win back" the working class, said anything yet about ICE injuring and arresting the head of the SEIU of California? truthout.org/articles/ice...

I have a long-standing policy not to tell people whose bodies are on the protest line how to do it. You could be right but if you’re not in it, your feedback does more harm than good.

If the boot fits...

I worked with a Black elder at the Charlotte MEPS who had been a member of SNCC and people really discount the amount of planning and training that went into the Non-violent protests of the Civil Rights era. It started with selecting who could show up to the action.

The Right Way To Protest is to stand very still in your apartment and whisper “I wish this wasn’t happening” then get your ass to work, you’re gonna be late damn it

I don't care if these monstrous ICE raids are a "federal operation". This is authoritarian violence, plain and simple. Just because Stephen Miller has kidnapping quotas for brown people he doesn't want to see on the street doesn't mean we have to think it's okay.

chinga la migra May the spirit of rebellion grow & multiply!! I absolutely reject the logic that comrades are ever responsible for any increased state repression. We are living in fascist time, they don't need "excuses." Be ungovernable, maintain solidarity, & keep tactical differences internal

Big point that is being missed: without the insurrection act, the activated Guard troops are now federal army and cannot Do law enforcement. Period

🧵

Reports and video show flash-bangs thrown into piles of debris just before a car caught fire, strongly suggesting it was law enforcement, not protesters, who sparked it. More details are coming. Don’t let them control the narrative. Thank you to everyone sharing footage, always record everything.

It's necessary to keep pointing out: all this is not because ICE wants to deport murderers and rapists. It's because ICE is going to Home Depot parking lots, courthouses, and elementary school graduations to round up peaceful families, many seeking asylum, which means they are here legally.

If you are National Guard or Active Duty military and you are being ordered to violate the constitutional rights of US citizens then this is the number to the GI Rights Hotline. There is support. You don’t have to go through with it. 877-447-4487

BBC is the only one covering the Los Angeles protests right now as Fox, CNN and MSNBC ignore it.

with the ways cops' brains work they're probably insulted trump's calling in the guard

I know that many don't want to hear this but we've been moving towards this current state of affairs over the past 65 years. And it's really been a bipartisan project. The expansion of the carceral state is the fuel for fascism. Folks have been trying to make this case for a long time.

The federal government is moving to take over the California National Guard and deploy 2,000 soldiers. That move is purposefully inflammatory and will only escalate tensions.

The fascists are armed and dangerous.

Short 🧵 & I'd be very interested in @johnpfaff.bsky.social's take as he's a SME on this & my area is not policing. That said, as someone who has taught/trained a few thousands cops in my prior career as a criminology professor, what we're seeing expressed in the grab below is an important tell. 1/
