"I've got a brand new content harvester"

Good piece this. Not just a US issue, I'd say...

This is awful news. When I began my journey as a hack in the mid-Eighties, my first paper (the Hackney Gazette) & the South London Press were London's local behemoths; they came out three times a week & were an integral part of local democracy. The SLP's demise is a depressing sign of the times.

I see that my (Labour) MP Andy Slaughter voted "Aye" and, like his fellow AI-friendly Labourites, chose to side with the Altmans, Thiels and Cleggs of this world against artists and creators. This will not be forgotten, or forgiven.

Fucksake. Government has stripped the Kidron amendment defending creators’ copyright out of the Data Bill using an arcane parliamentary instrument. Not going to say where I would like to insert an arcane parliamentary implement.

Umm I'm not so sure about this.

Fantastic ending to Baroness Kidron's speech in the House of Lords yesterday, which led to the government's defeat on AI & copyright. Speaking the UK's creators: "Their property, their labour, is worthy of your protection - because apart from anything else, it is not ours to give away."

Declaring an interest, I was born in that unit, my sisters were: that’s a massive geographical gap in coverage (20 miles minimum in any direction: Yeovil is a town of 50 thousand these days, and abysmal transport links).

Perfect shitstorm, as the UK’s most lackadaisical bok distributor (look, Ma, no packaging materials!!) seems to have teamed up with the UK’s most careless parcel-tossing delivery service. I’m estimating about 50% of today’s new titles will be returned damaged #BooksellerWoes

Rwanda, Africa's most densely-populated country, is once again desperate to host "illegal aliens". Why? Because it hopes a deal would mean the US stops pushing it to pull its troops out of DRC. Will the US be that cynical/crazy? x.com/TheoMpoze/st...

Reform gains currently 665. Tory losses currently 665. This is basically just a rightist rebrand, isn't it?

Meanwhile, in Canada…

Here at The Local we hear from quite a lot of people who have messed up when it comes to their French visa or residency permit, and unfortunately quite a lot of them are the victims of crappy advice from unregulated 'hand holding' services

The UK government is dealing with the current crisis by leaning hard into tropes: “iron-clad” tax policies, the transatlantic "special relationship", the necessity of Brexit, and UK exceptionalism –or “British brilliance”. All suggest a country struggling to adjust to the world as it is. 👇 (1/x)

Shocked, I tell you. But the timing of this may actually be quite helpful as Brexit becomes steadily more discredited.
