I’m not a professional Jew counter, but this also sounds like a dumb way to count Jews.

At this point I can only assume that the actual damage was extremely minimal, the HEU was spirited out well in advanced to some unknown location, and the setback to the program is a matter of weeks rather than months.

Navigating—even locating—official EU regulatory text is so absurdly difficult I’m convinced that I must just be an extremely stupid person

Oh please, does that really look like the face of a guy who would do something so unethical?

Also he’s a fucking idiot who doesn’t read and doesn’t understand anything and surrounds himself with sycophants and weirdos

I need interviewers to start asking these people to explain what a stablecoin is and how it works, or what blockchain or distributed ledger is. This is shameless shit, but it’s also the kind of idiocy that could only be uttered by someone with absolutely no fucking idea what any of this means.

If you don’t get choked up reading this, you may be a great fit for a job in the West Wing.

My grandmother always used to say that it’s better to jizz up a coup than to jizz *on* one. I always wondered what she meant by that, but I get it now.

Just like Kyle Rittenhouse, George Zimmerman, and various others. Apparently in their minds there’s no real estate between “person who killed someone but was not convicted of murder” and “person to be celebrated and revered.”

Most problematically, the corollary to Yglesias’s position is that one can simply look at the incarceration rates (and CEO prevalence) of particular demographics to understand how “intelligent” they are. Ugly stuff.
comment in response to
post
It also assumes without any basis that “intelligence” is the dominant factor in determining whether someone will be a CEO or convicted criminal.
comment in response to
post
I’d argue that it fails for the very basic reason that there is simply no universal definition of “intelligence,” much less an objective way to measure it. Pointing to all the male CEOs and prisoners is inductive idiocy.

My favorite part of the Rosa Parks story is how she was merely accused of sitting in the front of the bus but convinced the police they were mistaken with a righteous, painstakingly detailed explanation of what really happened

Am I the only one who finds it extraordinarily weird that a bunch of senior, full-time DOJ people are being sent in to run the LOC and copyright office? I’m surprised there isn’t more discussion of how incredibly odd this is. Why in the hell would the DAG be the acting Librarian?

It’s also the wrong question. The question should be “which of these is more likely to save you from spending time in jail and generally having an all-around bad time?” The consequences of a fuckup are more than just the inconvenience of not getting home expeditiously.

But not if there was a note in the cup holder that said “this is not a quid pro quo.” However, if there’s also bag of cash in the trunk, the note should go in that bag.

It should not be a surprise if whatever agreement they make includes an oddly specific provision for eliminating wind farms in the Aberdeen area.

This didn’t seem like a close call. They’re an agent of the US providing a service in exchange for money. In this context, they’re not an independent foreign sovereign—they’re a vendor. To find otherwise would be to absolve the admin of the obscene abuses those people endure.

They could maybe regain a modicum of dignity if they told Trump to fuck right off and challenged him to try enforcing the agreement.
comment in response to

It’s not clear there’s even a written agreement, and even if there is, it’s entirely unenforceable. You can’t enforce a contract where the consideration given by one side is a promise not to illegally target a private entity for its protected speech.
comment in response to

Effectively, he is requesting that Carr make it illegal to insult Trump by not performing at the Kennedy Center. Unbelievably pathetic stuff from the free speech champions here.

Unfortunately zero Nic Cage movies set at San Quentin, let alone Nic Cage + Ed Harris + Sean Connery. But perhaps the movie tariff will help remedy this.

This broke my brain for way too long last night. What, precisely, would be tariffed? Physical film reels and DVDs? What if it’s a foreign production that shoots in the US? What if it’s a Netflix original? It’s so goddamned stupid, but I just want to understand what he thinks he’s talking about

It’s also indicative of his utterly infantile grasp on trade, and basically everything else. He thinks it’s just big boats filled with nicknacks instead of, say, lithium ore.

Got it, NYT is tortuously interfering in an election by publishing some quotes from lawyers 6 months after the election happened. Totally legit and not at all stupid stuff from the president of the US.

Oooh, we could have an event where the government can lay out its evidence and a group of observers can determine if there’s enough to conclude that a crime occurred. Like a process that is adequate that people accused of things are entitled to. We can call it adequate process.

The US built the greatest economic engine in history. The dollar underpins the entire global order. Not a single serious decision gets made anywhere on earth without considering US interests. The idea that we’ve been ripped off is utterly batshit.
