I decided to sift soil with a colander (yes, the kind for vegetables). Not effective. Looking at soil sifters, and I think I could make a proper one myself? Here is Baby Eloise enjoying her garden.

A US citizen with a learning disability who has just suffered a medical emergency asks a CBP officer for directions outside the emergency room. He ends up detained in an icebox for ten days and has the assistant secretary of DHS lying about him to the public at large. popular.info/p/us-citizen...

This is Chester. He is so good at piano he can play it in his sleep. In fact, he can only play it in his sleep. 13/10

Republicans want to slash Medicaid — a death sentence for thousands of Americans. Medicaid provides health care to more than 37 million kids, funding for 2/3 of seniors in nursing homes & is 40% of the revenue for community health centers.  We must EXPAND Medicaid, not cut it.

This is the most important story in the United States right now. www.wired.com/story/treasu...

Murphy: "This is a constitutional crisis that we are in today. Let's call it what it is."

If you care for a family member on Medicare/Medicaid Make sure release of information and contact numbers are up to date It will be easier to advocate for them if these are already in place #medicaid #caregiver

Re: Deep Seek. Opportune time to repeat a non-trivial point, which several folks have been making for quite some time: open weight != open source

What was interesting about algorithms? The challenge of doing X with as few resources as possible (memory, power, etc). What are OpenAI + friends doing? The opposite. "Lets assume we have unlimited resources & try to build a god." No wonder they're losing their shit with the DeepSeek thing.

"If it winds up being the case that the treatment group benefited from [bunch of AI interventions] and (4) extra tutoring after school, while the control group received none of those resources, then the researchers did not actually study the effect of AI on the treatment group"

One thing about me is that I will fight Nazis until I’m six feet in the ground.

Et alors, je me sens vraiment française 🇫🇷🥖 I got this boule on my second attempt. Next up, I will try to replicate my mom’s quiche.

you saw what you saw. you know it. use it to remind yourself why you’re turning to community, joining groups, committing yourself to service and care. america is not that motherfucker, america is us

this confirms something i have long suspected, which is that certain people are told that their professional and academic failures are because of “affirmative action” or “DEI” as a way to avoid difficult conversations about their mediocrity www.wsj.com/lifestyle/ca...

'hey do you want to read a text that is a complicated statistical average of the entire internet?' what? no dude, i don't

This place is cool

Oh whoops, I forgot? I also have a couple linguistics degrees. Throw your funniest ambiguous sentence, and/or ling fun-fact my way in these trying times.

Add me on StoryGraph? Same username. I haven’t imported my data yet. I read murder mystery, horror fantasy, politics, history and always looking for good French novels.
