The astronauts in 0G suffer ill effects, but they do in fact survive. Same would be on Mars: you’d see health issues, but nothing that would cause mass casualties or doom a long term mission.
The real question is, after 2-4 years on Mars and in space transit, would they be able to return to Earth?

If any mission is going to have people on Mars long term, the lower gravity issue is one they’ll certainly address. 40% of a G versus the micro-gravity of a space station makes it far easier to help fix as well

It depends on two things. How radical will the backlash be to all this, and how radical with those be elected to un-fuck it.
If both are radical, it can be undone and reformed quickly.
But I don’t think either one will be. The American voting public simply doesn’t care.
