It’s completely insane that the media pretends every random protester or activist in America speaks for the Democratic Party, but Trump’s agencies can directly quote white supremacist accounts on Twitter and the same media won’t link these people to Trump

Either everyone has constitutional rights or no one does

Bluesky feels incredibly busy and vibrant to me….becuase I follow a lot of people. Which you have to do here if you want to see a lot of action, because *the site has no central algorithm.* A startling number of professional tech writers still don’t seem aware of this basic aspect of Bluesky.

A state of 900,000 people is about to lose 1.8 million meals for the hungry thanks to the same president that hired its governor to run his secret police

Super cool how uber and lyft killed the taxi industry with VC-subsidized low fares, then jacked up their prices while squeezing drivers, so now you can’t get a ride to the airport on time

Federal judges need to notice and act like they notice that this is what DOJ is right now

Trump: We must kill millions of children by destroying USAID, medicaid, and food stamps, because of the deficit Also Trump: We must pay for helicopters to terrorize the people who pick our vegetables

No one fears to criticize a Democratic president because Democrats are the (only) party of free speech

“Democracy is not a state. It is an act.” -John Lewis lcv.org/nokings

The Fort Bragg thingis extremely bad but the fact that they screened the soldiers for political views is key. The propaganda is meant to make us afraid. Don’t be complacent but don’t be fooled either.

🧵 My small country, Estonia, population 1.3 million sent 2003-2014 over 2500 soldiers. 9 were killed in the line of duty. 109 wounded, half of them so seriously they could no longer lead a normal life. In Iraq 2003-2009 we had more than 440 soldiers. 2 were killed. 18 seriously wounded. 1/n

Immigration judges obviously should not be part of the executive branch.

Guy who did a Hitler salute at inauguration is surprised that the fascist president demands obedience

I continue to believe that in times like these, we all share a collective duty NOT to splatter our demotivating feelings of doom and despair all over everybody else in public. I don’t care if it makes YOU feel better. This isn’t about YOU. Deal with those feelings outside of public venues.

Ruin a dictator's birthday this weekend. Find your local No Kings protest at lcv.org/nokings 😎

Congress has been asleep at the wheel on consumer data protection basically since the dawn of the internet

There's no way the courts can function as a coequal branch of government if every individual court starts from the position of "we have no information about how this admin comports itself, let's start at the beginning". Courts need to use the admin's behavior in other courts to inform their rulings

Things are pretty bad but if you’re On Here to yell at us about how nothing will work and all is already lost, log off and touch grass. For your own sake as much as the movement’s.

I wish whenever Democrats did the boilerplate "Of course I believe that violent or destructive protesters should be arrested," they'd add, "Unlike our president who pardons them if they are beating on cops for him."

Judges who’ve spent their whole careers assuming some baseline level of good faith from DOJ need to recalibrate for a while

YouGov poll, just out: "Should ICE agents be required to wear uniforms while making arrests?" Yes: 68% No: 18

The Declaration of Independence specifies 27 grievances with King George III, and I count at least 15 of them that Donald Trump has also committed in whole or in part. Particularly notable right now: "He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures."

The Soviet coup of 1991 failed in part because soldiers refused orders to harm protestors. Soon after that, the regime fell.

Honoring Confederate Heritage has nothing to do with racism, slavery, or treason. Tuscaloosa just had a really cool art scene in 1862, okay?

Grocery stores used to have cashiers. Then they replaced the cashiers with self-check-out machines that constantly malfunction and require a store employee to troubleshoot, but they're always understaffed, so everything is slower and worse. Now imagine that dynamic applied to air traffic control.

Democrats always take responsibility for real policy and Republicans always use it against them. This dynamic includes both actual events (e.g., debt ceiling fights) and vibes (e.g., who was in charge of covid response)

i'm so old i remember when tech companies invested in stuff that wasn't just competing with every other big tech company for The Official Next Big Thing™

Still waiting for the article that’s like “these right wing militia members are in a bubble and it would be healthier if they exposed themselves to left wing ideas”

Three things about this comment: 1. Homan is a White House adviser who doesn't have the power to arrest anyone. Neither does Trump. 2. Trump once again acts like he's not in charge. "If I were Tom, I'd do it." Uh, doesn't he work for you? 3. THREATENING TO ARREST A GOVERNOR IS A FIVE ALARM FIRE

MAGA is using the troops but does not actually care about them, and that’s an important thing for anyone who might receive illegal orders to know

Congratulations DC Bar President-Elect Diane Seltzer!! So well deserved. A victory for the American people’s freedoms as well as the DC legal community.
