I think the key observation here is you go from
1. Roll 3d6 against wisdom to see if you are aware of all the relevant unix commands
2. Stare at the manpage for 3 minutes to figure out the wierd command line parameters

Airplane engines are still largely dumb fuel and spark lathe-children. If you feel the desire to wrangle with the primer, the throttle, the mixture, you can learn to fly machines intentionally frozen in time. "High tolerances" means exactly the opposite of what you think it means.
