Tell me: What unpleasant but important action could you reframe using this formula?

Of course there is more to entrepreneurial success than writing good hooks. But breaking the challenge down into bite-sized things I need to learn or master and connecting them back to my big goal has been a game changer for my productivity.

I call it the GAP-ACTION-Formula.
"If [the GAP] is all that stands between me and [GOAL], I can commit to [SMALL ACTION]."
Example:
"If writing better hooks is all that stands between me and my goal of helping 200 PhDs this year, I can commit to investing 5 mins/ post to write a better hook.

So in the past, I would have ignored the advice and tried to get away without making the effort (and sometimes I still am, as you might tell from the "hook" on this post).
But I found a mental reframe that helps me do the work, even if I don't want to.

🪝 All the online-creator-gurus tell you that the hook is the make-or-break point of every post or email you're writing. Ignore it and you might as well not post anything at all.
🎣 And that's the catch: I’m lazy to improve my subject lines or hooks.

Since I started building a business with very clear and ambitious goals for the impact and revenue I want to create I am noticing a shift in how I deal with tasks I don’t want to do.

🎯 see how your goals relate to theirs
💡 think about you when they see relevant opportunities
🔗see the links between you and people they have in their network.
So, speak about your goals. To your peers, bosses, supervisors.
You can’t start too early!

The best way to get help from someone is to speak to them about your ambitions!
Tell people where you want to go in your life or career! Talk about career choices you are contemplating.
If they don’t know what you want, they can’t see how they can help.
If they do, they will...

That's how I nailed my PhD (and enjoyed it, too), that's what I tell my coaching clients and that will be the guiding principle for the course I am building for PhDs- stay tuned! 😉

❤️ Take some time off this weekend.
❤️ Do something you enjoy.
❤️ Do nothing at all.
It's fine. It's healthy. You deserve it.
And you'll still accomplish your goals.

A hands-off PI can be a pain. But it can also be an opportunity for you to step up and take leadership of your project.🚀
What's worked or not worked for you, dealing with a hands-off PI?
Share in the comments!

TL;DR:
✨ Understand why your PI is hands-off
✨ Be proactive and structure your meetings
✨ Make it easy for them to support you better
✨ Find other people who can support you when needed

❓Are they overcommitted? Streamlining and preparing meetings will help.
❓Is your topic outside their core expertise? Maybe you can suggest to find collaborators for certain aspects of the research.
❓Isyour topic just not their main interest? Find an angle that makes it more relevant for them.

Now, about their disinterest—do you know why they seem disengaged?

💡You avoid the meeting agenda getting hijacked
💡You make it easier for your PI to (mentally) prepare for the meeting and help you
💡You'll come across as professional and proactive
💡You'll have proof of what was discussed and can produce it when they want you to justify your approach.
