Waiting for the day when this Riso thing calms down at shows. I’m blinded by all the neon coloring that serves no conceptual purpose for storytelling in comics. I don’t get it. Using riso for art prints makes more sense.

Great time at the Carol Tyler opening tonight at the Billy Ireland. It and the Motion Lines exhibits are a lot to take in. Saw a Lupin original and it is small and tightly inked. Damn. Looking forward to Carol’s new book.

Watched the Last Showgirl (streaming on Hulu) this afternoon. Anderson was fantastic.

The designs I keep seeing from a local tshirt company I tried applying at keep getting progressively worse. Their starting pay was insulting which I didn’t see posted till I asked around. Dodged one there.

That moment when an omnibus you’ve been waiting for over a decade to happen blows it with a blah cover that looks like it was a $5 job commissioned on Fiverr.

It is interesting the choices you see in comic making at an indie show. There’s a hang up over making the object versus making a more affordable product that’s meant for building a following… aka a career.

Day 1 of SPACE is done. It’s always good catching up with people during the slow times of the show. There is a a significant amount of construction from the parking lot to the Rhodes Center. Not terrible to navigate. The show picks up tomorrow at 10am. Goes till 5.

After watching Carville’s latest meltdown, screw that guy. His corporate friendly centrism is part of the reason why the Dem’s lost. AOC and Hogg are the future grandpa.

Here’s hoping the knuckle heads reinstate my insurance in time for chemo tomorrow. This is no fault of mine but a clerical fuck up of my former employer. Which wouldn’t be a thing if we just had fucking single payer healthcare in the US.

Pet peeve: shows whose submission form is a dang Google form where I have to remember my password to log in. Ugh, there has to be a way where I can actually see the form & don’t bury the table cost in that. WTF?

Dealing w/ the non-treatment but related cancer stuff this week. Breaking it up in 1/2 days so I can actually have a break week. (As what my chemo schedule intended this week to be.) My employer that furloughed me is becoming a pain in the ass. Can’t wait till May so I can wash my hands of them.

The show floor map is go!!! Next Saturday it’ll be a Panel collective reunion of sorts. Jim Rugg & Tom Scioli are coming Saturday. Nate Powell, Carol Tyler, etc. It’s going to be a hoot. Here’s hoping your book is on route to the copy shop.

I went through a stack of stuff my mom saved for me. Honestly it was therapeutic as I threw most of it out. I felt so out of place for almost the entire 18 years of my life, like I was living on another planet.

That moment where you find out someone just got divorced because they’re now on a dating app. Did I swipe right? No. No, I didn’t.

Got the news today that a guy who tabled behind me at Eddie P Con last year has stage 4 brain cancer. Thoughts go out to his family at this time. God speed Marco. Check out his work here… ko-fi.com/marcoantonio...

Happy to see that Jim Rugg & Tom Scioli will be coming to SPACE (Saturday only) here in Columbus, Ohio. The longest running indie comics / zine show of it’s kind in the Midwest.

Since a lot of book publishing (including comics & graphic novels) are done in China, with no viable solution in the states, these tariffs are bound to devastate the small indie publisher.

Basically anyone that didn’t take analog lettering back when I was doing it, you can ‘ink’ with gouache using a crowquil. The trick is to wet the paint down to a certain consistency so it will flow through a nib. Definitely rinse it off as soon as you’re done.

I’m going to have to google when the Strange Days run ends because I’m confident I can find the rest of it in Pittsburgh dollar bins. I found issues one and two so far. Both in really good shape too.

1st show of the year was a solid indie show in Pittsburgh. I’m not sure how the treatments are going to affect me come time for SPACE the last weekend of April. I kept that one but schedule is clear till early September.

Thanks to everyone for a great weekend in Pittsburgh. PIE went well. Knew little to nothing about the venue which happened to have a Mr Roger’s exhibit (?) a floor below the show. Hit Eides for the 1st time. Turnout was fantastic for an indie show.

Saw that someone is trying to rent out a 3 bedroom house in my hometown for $1k a month. I’d consider living there only if the town paid me $1k a month to move there. There’s no industry or decent paying jobs save for an hour plus commute. Very rural. Very remote. Featured in WSJ for opioids.

There is a drive now, good or bad, to crank out everything I can… comics wise. While I’m going to beat this cancer thing, it is a wake up call that I am clocking in at the half century mark. There are many ideas, almost a connected universe, if I go that way.

Didn’t know this until this week but not all cancers get a stage designation. I was trying to apply for disability while under treatment & the question came up. Went back to oncology, and the diagnosis has one long sentence of a description. Anyhow, now I’m involving a social worker to help out.

Here's a recent interview I did! Thanks, Brandon! brandonkeaton.substack.com/p/the-colour...
