It also matters that the protestors are overwhelmingly White, with a lot of first-timers and senior citizens. We all know that’s the crowd that this administration cares about. They surely noticed that a bunch of White people in small towns and conservative districts showed up to say STOP.

I get this in the context of the justice purity discussion. But as a standalone, yikes! I’d counter that the number one responsibility is collective survival. That includes taking care of our material needs but also strategic resistance.

It dawned on me that we are out here talking sexual and gender identity with people whose college major was literally determined by biological sex. For some reason, the width of the cultural divide hit me fresh.

My high school had a home ec class but I refused to take it on GP. I don’t think those exist anymore. Now kids take culinary studies, which is geared toward the workforce.

At some point the convo turned to what they all did when they worked. All of the women taught and majored in home economics, including “humane” guy’s wife. I didn’t even realize that was a major. Was that just a PWI thing? Preparing White women to manage households while they got their MRS degree?

One guy may have been a supporter. But even he was unhappy. He said something like “I think the border needs to be fixed but I thought he’d do it in a humane way.” I started humming loudly to myself to avoid hearing. I really need some waterproof headphones.
