Yesterday was the anniversary of one of my favorite baseball moments. That 23-22 Phillies game featured a relief pitcher (Donnie Moore) hitting a 1st inning triple. A lot has to happen to get a relief pitcher to the plate in the 1st. Love it. www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CHN/CH...

Daughter has struggled hitting this year. Had no hits (many walks) through the first 6 games. She was really pressing. Yesterday she went 4-4. Little brother is behind to backstop. His excitement for her success is the best.

Charles “Chief” Bender was born on this day in 1884. MLB debut 1903 Inducted to HOF 1953 With Bobby Shantz living, we still have a chance at firsthand accounts of Bender and Connie Mack. Shantz played for both with the A’s. Amazing.
