Game also featured a first-inning HR by Phillies starting pitcher, Randy Lerch
There have been 1st inning HRs by pitchers since. But not one by a pitcher hitting 9th in the order in the top of the first.

My youngest is 9. I was 9 when I really started to get into cards. I LOVE that he loves it. Reliving the best parts of my childhood with him is the best.

Ryan James Davis was born a week later.
The St Louis Cardinals were able to grab a ball from Ryan Howard’s first AB after our Ryan was born.

2 special memories have anniversaries today. Those great memories with Odubel can’t be recalled without the bad ones.
Still not sure how we should’ve handled everything.
Going to try and remember the good things and learn from the bad.

For his 3rd AB, his girlfriend remembered what we do for good luck (index finger on tip of the nose) and suggested we do it.
He hit the very next pitch for a home run.

3 years ago today (randomly on the 5 year anniversary of the first ball). Odubel left tickets for us.
His girlfriend met us for dinner. She brought them jerseys and other gifts.
He said hi before the game and then posted the fist bump with my son on IG later.

They FaceTimed her on her birthday. They kept up with her swim meets.
I’m not sure who was happier on this FaceTime. Ellie and Odubel had a language barrier, but somehow made each other smile.

He responded by bringing his girlfriend to meet Ellie for dinner.
They were so good to both my kids. Dinner lasted 3 hours. They just kept engaging with Ellie and Ryan. He taught Ryan how to bat flip :)

When he was arrested, Ellie was devastated. How do I even approach this with her?
She cried “why does Odubel hate me” so I sent him a message through IG basically saying there were kids that he cared about that really looked up to him….

A few months later we returned for picture day. He saw her and immediately remembered her. Brought her under the ropes and hugged her.
He somehow found her in RF during the game and brought her another ball. He hit a home run that night, too.
“Ellie said this is the best day ever!!!”

Players were in and out of the dugout. She paid them no mind. When Odubel appeared, she lit up. She yelled to him and he waved back!
