This is the perfect vacation companion, particularly if you want to unplug. I recognize the irony of posting this photo to the internet.

Hans and I are making the most of a hot day by chilling in the shade after vacuuming out the truck.

My spouse is in outpatient surgery this morning for a routine procedure. As a result, I have her belongings, which includes this little cross body bag she keeps her phone and other things in. I don’t care how girly this thing is, I am seriously considering getting one of my own.

Despite what trends over the past 15 years or so would have you believe, it's cool to know things like how something works. At the same time, it's perfectly okay to not know something, and asking someone else to share knowledge they have is not a sign of weakness.

I have a list on Bluesky called "can't look at politics all the time but sometimes need to"... I think today fits the bill.

I famously have a “family photo” of the five smartphones I simultaneously owned (and used interchangeably) circa 2016. Today, I barely want the one I have.

In which I advocate for keeping a "DOGE" but dramatically changing its mission, which should pretty thoroughly trigger anyone who's cheerleading its current incarnation: kirkmanskorner.com/2025/05/01/d...

The "tech" industry seems to have developed its own language similar to the one used by corporate executives: kirkmanskorner.com/2025/03/25/t...

A number of years ago, I put together this little web app that can cross-reference your location with severe weather alerts in the US. If you're at risk of being impacted by bad weather tonight or tomorrow, this could be very helpful for you.

My new policy on smartphone applications: if the same functionality is available from the same service via web browser, I don't need that application installed.

If you’re running openSUSE Tumbleweed like me, the gigantic system update hitting your computer today (2000+ packages!) is largely due to an update to Python 3.13, according to this message to the factory mailing list: lists.opensuse.org/archives/lis...

Microsoft’s open flirtation with moving the actual computing power away from the end user risks demolishing the entire market for desktop and laptop computers.

Hello world! If you live in the United States, your federal taxes fund the finest weather forecasting organization on the planet - NOAA's National Weather Service. By law, all their data is free of charge and not subject to copyright. This critical information should never be put behind a paywall.

When Gmail launched 21 years ago, each user was given a whole gigabyte of mailbox storage, which was bonkers in that era. What kind of stuff is in the Gmail app for iOS today that makes the app package over 60% of that original storage limit? Email isn’t complicated.

Are you disgusted by advertising? Blame the internet and then read this. kirkmanskorner.com/2025/03/07/y...

Today, I’m rocking this little dude instead of my Apple Watch. I bought this a few years ago because I thought it was cool that a watch can receive precise time broadcasts from WWV, a public service radio station run by the United States government.

I would watch the hell out of this. A dramatization of the operations floor at NWS Birmingham on 4/27/2011 à la “24”? Sign me up fam

Before you click on this, brace yourself: it's a nuanced defense of paywalls. kirkmanskorner.com/2025/03/04/i...

I’ve been sleeping on static site generators. I discovered Eleventy and now it’s like how can I use this literally everywhere 😳

I’ve now been to three NHL outdoor games, and I have to say that Ohio Stadium has so far been the best venue for playing outside. I honestly don’t think there was a bad seat in the house! The league did a great job of essentially turning this into an Ohio State home football game.

Everyone should repost this every day

One of these days I’m going to nail myself in the face while opening the door of whatever vehicle I’m entering.

Python will run on anything these days, I suppose

Millennials get a bad rep for overusing the 😂 emoji (guilty as charged) but I have to say I really enjoy using the 🙃 and 🫠 emoji as well because let’s be honest… we have seen so much sh%t in our lives that those emoji very accurately capture our state of mind at any given time.

I recently needed to set up a DMZ segment on the network at my house... I gave it VLAN id 666 because not only am I a nerd, I think it's hilarious to poke holes in my Southern Baptist upbringing.

I still can't get over how hard Kendrick absolutely crushed it last night

You are not powerless, and he is not unstoppable. Look at, and learn from, the funding freeze and how quickly he was forced to surrender.

On your TV now: a guy desperately trying to make Fetch happen

“Is this a touchdown?” “No, this is Patrick”

I’m manifesting it

I have to stop looking at the replies to just about anything @pfrazee.com posts. It does bad things to my blood pressure.

I know it’s not cool to let reason get in the way of an outrage party, but I can tell you the last person I want to see in an air traffic control tower is a TSA agent. Maybe leave that one out of your bellyaching about the antics in Washington.

We need the modern equivalent of wartime propaganda posters to remind people of this: do not spread despair. “Dooming is doing the fascists’ work for them”, that kind of thing
