Advocates of the Science of Learning tend to highlight the importance of retrieval practice, but inquiry-based learning can be a powerful tool for building long-term memory. Inquiry-Based Learning: A Powerful Approach to Retrieval Practice wegrowteachers.com/inquiry-base...

Free speech isn’t a partisan prop. You can’t denounce Europe for punishing Quran burners while demanding prison for Americans who burn the flag. That’s not defending expression—it’s tribal hypocrisy.

Most people seem to be tribally concerned with left vs. right but I think we should pay more attention to the infringement on Enlightenment liberal principles from both left and right.

Both are vital, and both intersect with two major instructional approaches: explicit instruction and inquiry-based learning. The Science of Learning And The Science of Thinking: Understanding Their Roles in Explicit Instruction and Inquiry-Based Learning wegrowteachers.com/the-science-...

We should demand competence & integrity from our President. We haven't had either in almost a decade now. But an important difference between Trump & Biden is the extent to which Trump is willing to do the kinds of things that undermine democracy & liberty. That is dangerous.

Yep, really poor 'marketing' and a gift to the Trump and MAGA movement.

I've had some useful Ed conversations here but the political discussion seems to be an echo chamber of anti-Trump grievance & not very interested in unpacking complexity, nuance & important questions. Anything but an anti-Trump stance is not appreciated. Fine but not intellectually interesting.

Sometimes, the most effective and efficient way to teach is to "just tell them". Like using Google Maps to navigate to destinations. But how many people lack deep understanding of directions and how to navigate where they live because they've relied too heavily on Google Maps?

Teachers showing their work and planning for PBL with their peers for critique and feedback for the quality can be powerful. This morning The Cooper School teachers are doing just that using the qualitative guiding language from our rubric and workshop.

Inquiry, when done well, is actually a highly effective form of retrieval practice.
