You're right. Between when I read the post and put up this comment, I forgot about their statement. I do appreciate groups like that that are local and doing the work and showing up. I did appreciate the overall sentiment. Living in this environment is just a daily mental struggle 😞

that this is an asymmetrical struggle, just like it always is and has been. And the political struggle is as asymmetrical as the one happening on the streets. We want to raise taxes (on the richest). They want to take away rights (from the most vulnerable).
Intended with respect and gratitude. 3/3

and more disturbingly, this on the same day that a person murdered a MN lawmaker and attempted to murder another? Along with their spouses. I LOVE your coverage of Texas politics, and I get your point on messaging, but every piece like this one at the very least needs to come with the disclaimer 2/3

I hear you on property destruction, but it's property paid for by the DAR and similar movements for the express purpose of glorifying the Confederacy during the height of the Lost Cause era of historical revisionism and particularly for the purpose of reminding Black people of their place. 1/3

I think your self-reflection means that at least you're capable of examining what you think and moving on to what makes sense. Right now this country is run by people whose ideas don't make sense, who know that, and whose entire schtick is to force the rest of us to go along with them anyway

I was in the Young Conservatives of Texas in college (couldn't stomach the CRs at my school because their pres was already a monster). Despite the saying about people growing out of being left wing, in fact a lot of people outgrow the right wing attitudes they were raised/brainwashed to espouse

You're fantastic, Patty! I wish colleagues like @schumer.senate.gov would follow suit. You have to send the message to those Americans who don't listen so well that what is happening is not normal, and the best way to do that is to shut it down and keep the power congress still has

Six hours before this you were pointing out how they were shutting down the Dept of Ed. They will shut down the government with or without you. Given that he plans to impound funds and the Republicans seem to have no objections to this, you might as well dig in with what strength you still have

3) I also wonder if the administration's actions against permanent residents like Mahmoud Khalil has shifted any of these folks' opinions. The Trump administration shows more every day that it is unquestionably a unique fascist enterprise, and I don't think that conservatives inherently lean fascist

...surely a wake-up call to the numerous young people on this panel who want to do away with Social Security because it's "your fault" if you don't save for retirement "at 19 or 20." Are they stuffing that money in mattresses, I guess?? Because retirement accounts are like 2008 levels of cooked

2) I wonder how many of these people still feel the same way in the wake of things like DJT's repeated back and forth on the tariffs, not to mention the failing confidence here and abroad in the US's financial stability. Our markets are a wreck...

1) Never before have I so fully glimpsed the rich white men pulling the levers behind the curtain. The young people surrounding Sam and speaking out against DEIA measures, some from the deepest pits of ignorance, as if they'd been brainwashed on the subject, was kind of chilling

I had the same thoughts when conservatives got mad that people were boycotting Goya. What? I have to buy their beans now?

I'll paint my nails in observance. The outside ones will be blue, the next two in will be pink, and the middle one will be white. Happy trans day of visibility two weeks early!! 🏳️⚧️
