Valencia is such a great city, a fact lost in the shadow a bit of Madrid and Barcelona

Chelsea: It's alright Jungs, we've got your back

Don't think it's about signing players, or winning, rather moving money to certain people and places. But would need to know more details before going big on those claims.

Did start Kane over Emile Heskey though tbf

Speaking of the under-the-table stuff … one for @josimarfootball.bsky.social hopefully (especially suspicious that almost none of their signings from Latin America look even close to ever touching the pitch) bsky.app/profile/drji...

Also find it very curious that Chelsea's strategy seems to revolve not insignificantly around recruiting Man City cast offs. Despite a poor season by their standards, the latter remain the team to beat in the PL; really not sure assembling ex-players and staff en masse from there is the way to do it

Learning from what happened with Seven Hag at Man Utd was always the smart move ...

Still a few things souring the milk (Visit Rwanda!, having to pretend Partey doesn't exist, hoping Raya doesn't get injured for any length of time) - but in terms of additions, about as exciting as imaginable (bit bummed about Wirtz, even if we've a couple of elite midfielders likely coming through)

Calling Fraudizio annoying is going gently on him, to say the least : )

Plus there’s the under-discussed dynamic of players going where they feel most wanted, where the relationship is in place. We’ve certainly signalled that, might be different for a goalie though given it’s so binary on whether they play or not generally.

One thing you can say of Arteta is though that he’s no qualms about upgrading on anyone in principle. If Garcia genuinely believes he can be number 1, better than Raya, he knows Arteta will make him so if he earns it - that’s the grounds on which I could see him rationalising the choice.

Sesko could run for a bit, but seems like Joan Garcia is about to make his decision - will it be us? Should go quickly if so …

I think it’s more case of a shift in audience, namely in targeting teens rather than any of the age groups above. Penultimate episode aside, it was atrocious regardless.

Musa, can I also put you onto this recent event? The video is long, but incredibly beautiful - a world away from the complete absence of nuance we get here in Germany on the situation in Gaza. www.youtube.com/watch?v=YqEi...

Innit, welcome to Germany 2025
comment in response to post
Yair, you got some decent pushback against this please - I tried, but it’s just so hard / bad faith here in Germany when you try to earnestly discuss such things: www.facebook.com/share/15c4zC...
comment in response to post
Anyway, it was a genuine attempt to understand why another person makes the choices they do - ultimately to try and move the solidarity cause forward. But totally fine if you don't want to have that discussion, all the best for your things.
comment in response to post
Doesn't sealioning involve asking lots of questions repeatedly, where has that happened beyond the initial response to your curious message to a stranger that triggered this whole "thread" ... yeah, I know, one more question and all that haha but also the last unless needs absolutely must.

Everything you write proves my original point more about how blind anger undermines the cause: attributing things to people they haven’t said or done, commenting on physical appearance, framing concerns as totalising statements instead of as respectful inquisitions (nowt to do with being nice) etc
comment in response to post
I deeply care too, and yet have spent last 15 minutes torn between wanting to get away from you asap because you seem angry, vindictive and lacking in focus and wanting to be respectful to fact you seem to genuinely care and want to engage. So your solidarity building might not be going that well...
comment in response to post
Very final observation: you seem far more intent on attacking him than on building solidarity, on asking how can people best be brought together and use their voice to end the horrors. That's not a criticism, we each have to find our way, rather an invitation.
comment in response to post
Not asking anyone to be nice, only effective. Response in the moment. Have no dog in this fight other than wanting situation in Gaza (and OT) to end asap. In Europe, the most effective way to do that is build broad solidarity (which invoking tropes readily undermines, for obvious reasons).
comment in response to post
There you go with those falsely attributed quotation marks again, let's leave it there because we're reaching the point of getting nowhere new. Hopefully, regardless, you take this in the spirit it was meant: wanting the same thing, question is only how best to get there in shortest time possible.
comment in response to post
As a general aside, anger, indignation, righteousness all have their place in the pantheon, of course. But just don't think this is the most helpful way to respond to someone essentially making the argument speaking out on Gaza good, invoking tropes in the process bad.
comment in response to post
Would be wise to not use quotation marks with something that wasn't said, or to comment on a person's physical appearance. Which brings me to my point: if, as from your other messages seems to be the case, objective is rightly to end silence on Gaza how is this way of engaging conducive to that?
comment in response to post
Put differently, people usually swear (at strangers) due to a lack of articulacy or out of anger based in deep caring. If latter here - who does your anger serve if it’s alienating and not conducive to further engagement, to a change of position/perspective? Where’s the gain beyond gratification?
comment in response to post
Out of interest, what’s your objective with such a comment? It’s neither engaging nor helpful … wouldn’t it be better to tell someone *why* you disagree with them, what they’ve missed rather than just throw insults and move on?
comment in response to post
Why would they wake up today any different given the Women already won it first time in 2007?
comment in response to post
You are a wonderful human being, Andrew. Bless you for all your bring to the world. And congrats to the Women for an extraordinary, much deserved achievement.
comment in response to post
For the salary he’s on, you can’t have a guy like that not even in your thoughts - I think the ambition will be to have a strong three/four months once he’s back then move on in January (but who knows where to)
comment in response to post
Superb piece, though it rankles even more living in Germany with all the silencing going on here at scale. One thing I would add, fair to take an even dimmer view of those who, in the age of instant info at our fingertips, invoke such tropes while articulating much-needed critique of Bibi/Kahanists.
comment in response to post
I know you don’t discuss rumours as if they’re gospel but rather as a window to debating wider points, but feel obliged to note as someone living in Germany that I wouldn’t trust Pletti to truthfully tell me the weather if we were stood next to each other looking up at the sky. Not reliable at all.

18 regulars, couple of vets, smattering of youth and whoever has the dubious accolade of being your third-choice keeper = 24 (18+2+3+1)
comment in response to post
I think we’ll do what we’re hopefully about to do at goalkeeper with Joan Garcia: bring in someone who’s not been given guarantees they’ll start but who has also been told that the door is very open to them becoming first choice in time if they earn it.
comment in response to post
Or a more hipster idea, since the birth of the camera we've become more concerned about how we look in the eyes of other people and, performatively, any success deemed better than no success

Wonder who if anyone they consider untouchable in that squad ... also because I wouldn't mind Arsenal lowballing them on Yoro as a good Saliba backup : )

Not a single syllable wasted on the utterly dreadful nonsense masquerading as a European final we were subjected to last night, this is the kind of complete disdain the watered down version of UEFA's second-tier competition should be met with in all quarters. Bravo! #SouthgateIn

Think it's more a question of whether we want an out and out winger on the left or someone who comes in on off the left (plus the cost)

You forgot Kai as well 🫣

Nine years is a long time in the job for anyone, genius or not. Can't help but feel it's gone a bit stale, on top of the recruitment not proving that great of late ...

What explains why it is part of one city but the whole of two others? Or is that too much to get into here? : )

If you’ve got time and inclination to head to Peckham, Kudu is very much where it’s at - probably the best restaurant never to show up in food guides/lists (guess there’s a reason they’re moving to Marylebone in autumn)
comment in response to post
Also think we need to add certain attributes to the squad rather a particular position per se: someone who's a different profile / more of a killer than Kai and who can change game state in attack / bring chaos to break down low blocks. That/those could exist in a wide forward as much as a striker.
