The medical students I teach hate the way they’re allocated to their 1st job after graduation: it’s a kind of lottery system. This study shows just how much they dislike it & how much damage it does to the way they view their future career. Hope someone’s listening. academic.oup.com/pmj/advance-...

How cool is this. Voyager 1 is coasting in interstellar space, more than 48 years & 25 billion miles from Earth. Its back-up manoeuvring thrusters failed more than 2 decades ago. But @NASAJPL have GOT THEM WORKING AGAIN!!!! www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/nasas-v...

My grandmas were immigrants, my mum & sisters in law are immigrants; my sister & nephews are migrants. My kids study maths, Shakespeare, dance, act & score tries alongside the kids of immigrants. My dad’s life was saved by immigrants. Immigrants have made us richer, wiser, stronger Win the fight

In operating theatres at UCLH this morning, with our wonderful theatre teams. Many people from many places, all of them helping us deliver the care. Couldn’t do it without them.

One of the universe’s great unanswered questions: How come there’s gonna be no #Andor Season 3?

My thanks!

Honoured to have been part of #ASM25CNS Fantastic meeting. Caught up with friends old & new. Learned many things. Inexplicably went for an early morning run. Congrats to the new #ANZCA fellows. Thanks for the hospitality!

It’s important to push back boundaries & in many ways this week’s #BlueOrigin flight did that. But if you want to know about the first American women in space & the story of NASA’s remarkable 1978 astronaut class, have a listen to this episode of #16Sunsets podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/1...

Kangeroos in space 🦘🚀 One of the stories in the latest bonus episode of the #16Sunsets space shuttle podcast. @drkevinfong.bsky.social in conversation with shuttle flight director and raconteur Rob Kelso. Mission control high jinks and serious spaceflight insights too #nasa apple.co/4i8Xi6s

First sighting in the wild! So Very Small at the Oxford Literary Festival: If you’re not in Oxford today and would like a copy, you’ll have to pre-order, as the official UK pub date is May 1. Gotta say—it’s great to see it in the flesh.

Doesn’t feel like 5 years already since we had to learn to don PPE, to work in it all day & make it last because there wasn’t enough of it. People have different opinions about what did & didn’t happen. I can only say that in 27 years of practice it was the worst thing I’ve ever seen, every day.

Yep. Every word of all of this.

This’ll be worth a read!

Met Terry White in 2011, at the OPF on the last day of the last space shuttle mission. A joy to catch up with him again for this episode of #16Sunsets, to ask him about the difficult road to the launch of the first mission, Columbia, on STS-1. Have a listen podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/1...

Measles cases continue to surge globally, putting millions of children at risk. More than 10 million people globally were infected with measles in 2023, a 20% increase from the previous year. bit.ly/48SAtkf

The measles outbreak in Texas is reminding me of the public letter Roald Dahl wrote about losing his daughter to measles in 1962, just before the vaccine was publicly available.

An astonishing exploration of the reality of ‘DEI’ in this excellent @drkevinfong.bsky.social podcast about 1970s NASA. The testimony from older male astronauts on how female excellence changed their minds is memorable. podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/1...
