They do very nice coffee. Had a few in there over the years.

I went up to a local church in Suffolk which has a doom painting in it as I was writing a scenario which has one. It's spending time with those details which give the story realistic flavour.

I did look at some of their other Kickstarters and was tempted. They are nice minis.

I'm currently writing a Gaslight oneshot, but the DA scenario was bumped up my to-do list after running a game at the Chaosium con and at the GFoJE virtual con over the weekend. I will probably set it around Suffolk like one of my published CoC scenarios. I like the folk horror vibes around here.

Genius. In a recent game, a zombie attacked the priest who tried to hold it back with prayer. I asked for a religion roll and he got an extreme. I had the zombie pause in confusion, rather than it doing anything mystical, which allowed the other players to kill it.

Theres nothing like an insane priest attempting to hold back the horrors with prayer to create an iconic moment in game. Usually before they die horribly.

I've not really used magic a lot when I've run it. Potions, yes, but magic feels slightly out of place in the one shots I've run. I've run a oneshot a couple of times recently with a nun, priest, monk and pilgrim, and the groups have always leaned into the religious part with enthusiasm.

I've been back on a Dark Ages kick in the last couple of months and forgotten how much fun you can have with it. I have a half scribbled down concept for a Dark Ages scenario about the party visiting a priory to view a holy relic and keep meaning to go back to work on it.

See? You'll never be as cool as them. Especially in this heat.

They were doing micro brewing before you'd even heard of it. You're not as cool as them.

The darkness was the journey we had together. And the piles of dehydrated dead bodies we found in the theme park. But mainly the journey.

Traditional Monasterial activities, along with beekeeping and extortion rackets.

Backed. And the original set. I'm starting my own monastry.

OMG. Those are perfect for Cthulhu Dark Ages.

There was 100% lack of bell equipped toes.

Now are you talking about Blake (deffo dead) or Avon (fade to black and no actual confirmation of his death)?

No casualties in the group. The less said about the poor Park Ranger who got obliterated the better.

You don't see them screwing each other over for a percentage.

Oh yes Brother @thetweedmeister.bsky.social, I will be seeing you in the morning after Matins.

I can run it with the DG group at some point. I'd quite enjoy seeing you lot run through the scenarios in the boxed sets i have.

and a reminder that Cosmic Dark by @grahamwalmsley.bsky.social is on Kickstarter but there are only 4 days left. I'm looking forward to trying it out this weekend before it's even released! www.kickstarter.com/projects/gra...

Then on Sunday, I'll be running Alien, Hopes Last Day before rounding off the weekend by playing in a game of Cosmic Dark. 5 very diverse systems.

Lastly, another Sabre clash. The different fighting style in my opponent here. This one tends to favour feints, rapid strikes and trying to be a little too fancy. it's tricky to deal with. Sabres often feel more brutal, they're not subtle weapons as Obi-Wan would have us think. youtu.be/11k8cc4ihb0

Next up, Sword and Buckler. While not my best performance, I do feel I move better with S&B than some other weapons. I'm especially pleased with a couple of the blocks I pulled off. A couple of silly misses, but still... youtu.be/spJzzwahRgU

Some of the slightly less shameful videos from Wednesday. First up, Sabres. I enjoyed this bout, only let down by my poor arm positioning on my upper left block. A couple of times I was too far out and not high enough. youtu.be/OzK4Yi1Q61o

It's fine. Sometimes I don't know what I'm saying. Once again this is the problem with text based interactions. No idea of the context of the wording. If its any consolation, I have the same problem when its my birthday. I usually end up with booze and junk.

Cat food is a good alternative. I did buy some specific hog fodder but it was massively expensive and stank. I don’t give them much, there’s at least five of the little pigs hanging around. They should forage more.
comment in response to post
I read about that a few years ago when we found we had hoggles visiting our garden. They get cat biscuits/food and water left out for them.

I backed it on KS and have a physical copy, but haven't played it yet.

We have a very high churn rate from the reenactment because it's low cost entry but people get put off by the cost of the kit. The HEMA group doesn't have as high a drop out but thats because people have to commit to taking part with the upfront cost.
comment in response to post
The HEMA group does 1 month for £65 then £40 per month afterwards. The Reenactment group is a free first taster session, then its £5 per session. The main reason for the difference is the insurance. One has to be run as a contact sport, the other is a dressing up club with swords.

Our place runs intro classes when the boss gets enough interest. We tend to get waves of applicants who then either don't turn up or don't stick around as it's not what they expect.
