“Fortunately, we have everything we need to break out of this downward spiral. By changing our diets, preventing food waste, and improving farming practices, we can start to reduce the demand for land that’s feeding this destructive feedback loop.” Nothing new, yet.. drawdown.org/news/climate...

Emissions are not distributed equally. Just 5% of power plants generate 75% of power sector emissions; 12% of people consume half the beef produced; 2% of aviation emissions come from the 0.003% who are (private jet users; etc. What a great opportunity for targeted reductions!

Why does this in-depth article by @sonofjud.bsky.social about the coming heat dome over the US fail to mention climate change? The way fossil fuels are making heat waves more likely and more extreme is at the center of the story. Climate silence = climate denial. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/19/w...

"The climate has been barking at us for decades. It’s now beginning to sink its teeth into humanity. Every single way of avoiding further harm involves the rapid phase out of fossil fuels. Denying that is madness." jamesdyke.substack.com/p/the-climat...

Geoengineering will be the result of a continual series of decisions that prioritises the interests of a tiny fraction of humanity. It’s not inevitable. But if it is to be averted then those interests need to be challenged now. open.substack.com/pub/jamesdyk...

I know there's a lot happening in the world right now, but I can't find any news reporting at all of this major new study published in Science. Where's the #climate coverage?! "We therefore need to cut GHG emissions even further to have a chance of keeping global warming below 2 degrees"

"We find that the number of hot temperature records observed around the world since 1950 far exceed what would be expected in a million years in a world without human-caused climate change."

The recent WMO 5-year temperature projections suggest that we might firmly pass 1.5C a few years earlier than expected. I explore the details in a new piece over at The Climate Brink: www.theclimatebrink....

The EPA's reasoning to justify repealing greenhouse gas regulations for power plants is so tortured, I feel like my brain has been waterboarded after reading it 🤯 The justification goes like this...🧵(1/8)

Great thread. Grid transmission needs to be much better in UK...reckon that'll happen. I.e. get power to part of country that need it?

Good piece from @georgemonbiot.bsky.social ... I've written more here on Molinia and specifically Dartmoor 🧵 www.dartmoornature.org.uk/post/molinia

🔴 New data shows that crops like wheat, coffee, beans and cassava could lose half of the best land for growing them by 2100. Findings come from @fao.org's upgraded Adaptation, Biodiversity and Carbon Mapping Tool “ABC-Map”. 👉 www.fao.org/newsroom/det... #ClimateAction

Almost 40 million sq km of ocean around south-east Asia and the Pacific – an area five times the size of Australia – was engulfed in a marine heatwave in 2024, driven by climate change www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Come and join the discussion tomorrow. I'll be talking about my precedent-setting climate court win and its implications for the future of oil and gas in the UK. Exeter University campus is a maze so leave plenty of time to find Streatham Court Or join online @gsiexeter.bsky.social

Great article

With climate change we can expect both more periods of prolonged drought AND heavier rainfall www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

And this is why we all should be concerned about climate change in a serious, visceral way.

A study in Nature Climate Change shows irreversible global glacier loss for centuries after overshooting 1.5 °C of warming, implying long-term reductions in glacial water resources with amplified impacts in regions where glaciers regrow. ⚒️ 🧪

"The only solution we have is to eliminate fossil fuels as quickly as possible & reduce emissions now. We're on the verge of surpassing 1.5°C... Scientists are trying to communicate the risks to decision-makers. Mitigation is urgent. I hope they listen to us" - @rahmstorf.bsky.social

We absolutely need this kind of rhetoric from scientists now. It's happening now. They need to be using the 'war footing' language.. otherwise it will be too late. It ain't gonna freeze back over...

UK met office - even at 1.5 we face significant die back from global forests and carbon release. www.metoffice.gov.uk/blog/2025/ur...
