It’s such a special place. That was the last recreational hike our operations team went on before we left. It was such a special day

That’s a melon hut. It’s made of fibreglass and curved to withstand the strong winds

days in the low positives. As it's summer and coastal we usually sit between 0 to -5C and it gets colder in low light and overcast days, but warmer in full sun when the UV heats up the surrounding rock

Yes, we're about half way between Casey station and Davis station in East Antarctica. It's a strange little oasis of rock and lakes surrounded by glaciers, so even though we're islands the Shackleton ice shelf prevents our sea ice ever breaking out. Just before we arrived they were having warmish -

It's so much fun, it honestly doesn't feel like work

They are a good size, comfortably sleeps two folks and can get a warm squeeze of three. We're single in the tents so there's room for gear. You can kneel in them but not stand up. I'm in the medical melon so folks can easily find me overnight if they need assistance

The Antarctic Medical Practitioner position is open until 15th January, but some other positions are closing very soon. It's quite a list, all based off things that have happened over the history of the program

That's so cool! I wintered with one of the old tunnel rats at Mawson in 2015, heard lots of amazing stories about the old station

I like this definition 💜 Rural you still need to eat the chips in the car or at the chip shop so they’re fresh and hot, rather than sad and soggy

This bill doesn't address that actual harms and risks of SoMe, or provide any increased protections from them. It harms more with the ID required to be submitted to companies, and we have poor data leak protection But it does disconnect young people from safe communities that can be life saving 2/

It's totally unworkable. It includes youtube which is become standard for use in the classroom with so many excellent resources available on it Anecdata but as a bullied teenager the internet and early social media (IRC chat rooms) connected me to a whole world outside the mean girl cliques 1/

There's such a sense of calm preparedness that comes from knowing exactly where each bit of your kit is, that the expiry dates are checked and you know it's functioning. Once that's done I don't worry about what might happen, I know I'm ready Going to sea is absolutely the same

The polar spirits definitely smiled on us - we landed on a bluebird -10C 4-8 knots day. I was hot, down to thermals and shell pants Can’t ask for better polar weather
