Dropping my kids off at school today. There were a few teachers at the gate. They said hello but I didn’t hear my youngest reply, so I said “are you going to say hello?” Unfortunately the teacher with his back turned thought I was talking to him and quickly spun around and apologised to me! 😂

What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders? English has somewhere between 10 and 20 vowels. Yes, I mean phonetic vowels not written vowels. The idea that a, e, i, o, u are the vowels of English is highly arbitrary.
