I agree, though I think faculty have been more afraid. Students have organized #StandUpForScience and other protests and been behind many petitions. It’s time for more faculty and leaders to step up.

I agree. I’ve been saying this for a while now (as have many), but institutions have been very slow overall to see this is our reality.

I work in grants. From my POV, the solution is not to compete for crumbs, but to put that effort into banding together across institutions to stand up for research. We need to yell at politicians and make sure Americans know what they’ll lose if university research ends.

It’s definitely just rumor (and hopefully remains just that), and there are two more opportunities currently even if it proves true in October and February, so we should apply!

Like whiplash: every grant feels like a risk right now. New PIs (any PIs) shouldn’t be in a state to consider a submission that actually goes through by itself a huge win.

I saw that and reposted 😭. It’s really crazy and sad: ECR opportunities evaporating everywhere and from organizations like HHMI that don’t actually have to cut programs like that to weather this storm. And after people already applied and were waiting on news: devastating.
