Phew! Long thread :)
If it was too long, we also have this short video that explains what we did and what we found!

It can’t be down to our young people to pay more, their fees and the ridiculous rents being charged for damp and tiny en-suite window-free mould rooms is already extortionate.
My daughter pays £125 per week no en-suite and that’s cheap compared to others.

I think what a lot of these unsuccessful interventions have in common is that they are about changing kids within schools, rather than changing the school itself. The school becoming a channel for reaching lots of kids, rather than the school environment itself being a target for intervention.

I remember reading a summary of all the times children were left alone in real life situations over the years and it never led to the horror that fiction predicted.

Sorry to hear this. I’ve mentioned the book Wintering by Katherine May left right and centre since reading it. If you are a reader it’s an interesting reflection on needing to lean into the bad bits and slow right down-seeing things as part of a seasonal cycle.

It is always so positive to hear the success YP can have when their needs are met.
My other half said we need to stop calling that approach ‘alternative’. Such a good point.
We continue to stigmatise students who have been let down by the ‘main’ system.

It’s a brutal process. Weirdly once I had started activating a clearer plan B I got a place. Take care of yourself.
I think there’s also an issue with the short term nature of the AssPsych contracts that add to a pressure situation for those going that route.

‘You still can’ was my inner voice for years. So also spotted this in here and loved it. 🥰
I try to be the ‘you still can’ for others. So powerful.

Now that I work some of my week from home I realised that I have to include ‘life’ stuff on my to do list otherwise my mind wanders to it anyway. Lovely to see it on your plan to normalise how I’ve been managing the shift to working at home.

Had the absolute honour of meeting and working alongside Natalie as a TEP. She is just the most giving and quietly inspirational person you could hope to meet. Just as you can sense from this article.

@laurathomson.bsky.social I found some helpful things in here about teenage sleep cycles and myths about screen use at night.

It really did. I found the final chapter very moving and agree that thinking through the function of adolescence in this way is therapeutic. 🥰👏
