www.reuters.com/world/us/fem... May this cure many of us of unwarranted imposter syndrome 🙏🏻

I remember a Star Trek Original Series episode about exactly this! Reading @drsurekhadavies.bsky.social ‘s delightful & fascinating book Humans: A Monstrous History

AI is not intelligent. Don't use it. We can always tell. If you can't write your own sentences and research, you shouldn't be a journalist, novelist, student, scholar, or member of Congress. Full. Stop.

okay this is distressing as hell but after more than 20 years of doing this job I've learned that the only way the book gets written is if you sit your arse in the chair and write the book. unacceptable really.

I've seen folks talk about how "in four years" they'll be able to get back to their planned projects and I really don't think that's going to work out. People & projects losing funding now will not be able to hit pause and come back once funding is restored. Hard-won progress & capacity will be lost

I'm at the soul-destroying phase of the book process where I feel like the more I write, the more I have left to write. Will I ever finish this book? Time will tell. 😂

Other countries have safety nets. The US has women. Their labor creates the illusion of a DIY society, making it seem like we don't need a net. Writing HOLDING IT TOGETHER was a labor of love and fury and I'm so grateful to share it with you all #PubDay www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/697130...

Daydream: How many folks would read novels about how out-of-work researchers take down an authoritarian government? Mission Impossible from below? I don't know what the opposite of fan fiction is, but I can't help wondering if this is a new genre waiting to be brought into being. #WritingCommunity

San Diego neighborhood makes ICE agents retreat

“They classify Palestinians as under three categories: Hamas, Hamas supporters, and human shields or potential terrorists.” ‘Genocidio’ author Rula Jebreal joined @naomiaklein.bsky.social to discuss growing up in a Jerusalem orphanage under Israeli violence. Full episode: zeteo.com/p/an-ongoing...

Worth reading. And, spoiler warning:

New or forthcoming trade and academic releases by talented early modern/18th-century historians that I look forward to reading this summer.👇 Spread the word! @juliagaffield.bsky.social @marcusrediker.bsky.social @kawulf.bsky.social

Choose 20 MONSTERS you have loved from childhood. One MONSTER per day for 20 days, in no particular order. No explanations, just MONSTERS. Day 4/20

So marking my recent batch of primary source evaluation essays, I've now discovered how AI reacts when students try and get it to write an evaluation of a primary source it doesn't know exists: it produces a historiographical review of the general topic.

I've been assured this is just coincidence (not white supremacy) by very serious pundits who don't believe in taking these segregationists at their word (or deed).
