Every year on Memorial Day, I share this video of French caretakers who take sand from Omaha Beach in Normandy, and scrub them into the letters to give them the gold coloring. They do this for all 9,386 US soldiers who died. France also gave us this land as American soil.

If only the GOP could read

Can someone show Captain Bone Spurs that THIS 👇 is how you show respect on Memorial Day? It’s not that hard.

Dear Mike Johnson and friends,

Lauryn Hill, born today in 1975. 🎂 Her debut solo LP not only got 11 Grammy noms, making it the first hip-hop record to receive that many; the hit single made her the first woman since Debbie Gibson to debut at #1 with a song she wrote, recorded, and produced on her own. “Doo Wop (That Thing)”

There's nothing holy about writing discrimination into the law.

When Muhammad Ali knocked down Sonny Liston on May 25, 1965, a 22-year-old photographer named Neil Leifer was ringside. Decades later, the image he captured still has our attention. Leifer spoke about how it took on a life of its own.

Are we sure Trumpism isn't an infectious disease? How doeas one explain the new infections of RFK Jr, Tulsi Gabbard, and Marco Rubio?

What are they getting for doing this? What are these ICE agents getting for openly defying a judge’s order? They took him knowing the judge was printing the order to stop them. I can’t take this anymore. This is insanely grotesque.

Since a Minneapolis police officer murdered George Floyd in 2020, the number of people killed by the police each year has continued to rise — and Black Americans are still killed in disproportionate numbers. Our data reporter explains his findings. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/24/u...

A provision in the proposed "big beautiful" spending bill would restrict the authority of federal courts to hold government officials in contempt when they violate court orders. Without the contempt power, judicial orders are meaningless and can be ignored.

How long before Trump pardons Derek Chauvin?

So the Real ID is meaningless if you’re brown?

Five years after George Floyd's death sparked worldwide protests over police brutality and racism, NPR's Michel Martin reflects on Morning Edition's return to Minneapolis to examine what has changed.

MUST WATCH: He was cuffed. They still beat him. 25+ complaints—and the cop kept his badge. They won’t just cover this up. They’ll erase it. That’s why I wrote Erased. Read it before they ban it too: stan.store/gxldsociety/...

America is NOT woke or it would have elected a woman to the presidency. America is a joke because it allowed a career scam-artist to cheat its way out of prison and into the Oval Office. Our global reputation is stained forever.

George Floyd was murdered by police five years ago today. The Say Their Names cemetery in Minneapolis features memorials for Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Amadou Diallo, Oscar Grant, Korryn Gaines, Freddie Gray and far too many more Black people who died at the hands of police.

The Fugees’ 2nd and final studio album “The Score” hits #1 today in 1996 — just six years after Lauryn Hill met Pras Michel (and his cousin, Wyclef Jean) as high-school kids in Maplewood, New Jersey. Two Grammys (for Best Rap Album and Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group) “Killing Me Softly”

Academic freedom in the United States has found itself periodically under siege, but the current attacks from the federal government raise a new level of alarm. nyer.cm/u405qvQ

Five years after George Floyd's death, NPR's Michel Martin took a trip to Minneapolis and spoke to the city's mayor Jacob Frey, Minnesota attorney general Keith Ellison and national civil rights attorney Ben Crump to reflect on how the city and nation have changed.

The U.S. has officially accepted a luxury jetliner from Qatar as a gift, and slated it to become a new Air Force One. Experts say that overhaul could take years and cost hundreds of millions.

America cannot long remain free, nor first among nations, if it becomes the kind of place where universities are dismantled because they don't align politically with the current head of the government.
