The UCP sure like power, but it seems they’re no fans of accountability or responsibility.
And that’s a dangerous place for our province to be.
Better is possible, but clearly not under the UCP. #abpoli

This isn't how we build trust in our political, policing & justice systems.
Or build safer communities.
Trust is built through strong public oversight in transparent systems of accountability for all of us who wield power. #abpoli

And as local gov't's across Alberta work to stand up their own police commissions & committees & local residents consider serving, they must be watching & wondering if this is what they can expect too - more pressure & interference from the UCP & Public Safety Minister. #abpoli

So again, it's disturbing when a member of the public appointed to the YEG Police Commission through an open, public process, cleared to serve by the commission, feels she has to resign because of pressure from a Minister in a gov't mired in a conflict of interest scandal. #abpoli

Ellis even appointed one of his former business partners to the Edmonton Police Commission.

Multiple UCP Ministers accepted hockey tickets from a man whose name keeps popping up in the CorruptCare scandal.
A friend & relative of UCP's Justice Min. whose companies have received $600M+ in contracts, incl. $70M+ wasted on Turkish Tylenol.

And that's exactly what's at the heart of the CorruptCare scandal - a seemingly never-ending web of conflicts of interest surrounding bloated contracts given to friends of & donors to the UCP.
Minister Ellis has never said a word about any of them.

And regarding conflicts of interest...
Minister Ellis is Deputy Premier in a gov't with a long history of conflicts of interest.
The Premier was found to have breached the Conflict of Interest Act by attempting to interfere in a criminal case.

Indeed, both Ellis & his staff have acknowledged that they’ve never made use of an open, public application process to select any of his multiple provincial appointees to police commissions across the province.
Not once. #abpoli

I voiced concerns about this back in Jan. & asked why Minister Ellis chose to launch an investigation into the open public process Edmonton City Council uses to choose commissioners, especially since it's more open than ones generally used by the UCP.

It was an honour to stand with them with colleagues from Alberta’s New Democrats.
This land is treaty land and we are all treaty people.
We must listen to & support First Nations leaders as they fight to protect treaty rights on behalf of their communities & generations to come. #abpoli
