Confusing everybody by booking concert tickets for October but talking about 'next year' when it's THIS year but I measure in school terms!

The Cure released #Disintegration 35 years ago today. A pivotal time in my young life, a pivotal time in my musical leanings! This album literally changed everything for me.

If it's your first day back tomorrow, don't forget to pop your alarms back on. Going to be a long, hot day.

New middle-age achievement unlocked - we're going for a curry one week from today with my son's girlfriend's parents - but the kids aren't coming!

It's a vinyl afternoon. Shakey and The Boss are two nicknames people will say to my face! I know some of the others too, you rapscallions - The Fat Controller for example 😂

Sun on my back, wind through the palms, no bells, no clocks. Salt air unwinds the weight of rooms and rules. Barefoot in sand, I find what slipped away— clarity, quiet, the self I'd shelved.

Happiest of birthdays to my daughter - 22 years have flown by. She loved nature from an early age and carried the bumper book of nature (a weighty tome) to all kinds of places when she was little. I am very proud of the woman she's become. A force of nature herself.

We do what is right, not what is easy - and that's how we sleep at night.

Hey now, hey now-now, sing This Corrosion to me.

Happy would have been 60 years, diamond anniversary (Mum and) Dad. He speaks to her every week. We miss her.

When it's World Costume Day I'm going to buy loads of books.

It's #WorldBookDay once again. Books are uniquely portable magic @StephenKing tells us. I hope that anything you have planned today promotes a love of books and reading. If it downplays supermarket profits from costume sales you get extra points from me at least. Subjective!

Martisor is the Romanian beginning of spring and marked the start of the year under the old calendar. An LSA colleague attended their child's event at a school today and they have been so grateful we've all been given spring tokens - kindness abounds - look for it and nurture.

The laptop isn't opening today. Executive decision.

Back in the day, the first-born made me a father's day gift from 'recycled' materials - this was my favourite, cos she really does like chips.

Had a fascinating conversation with a nursery teacher of almost 30 yrs. She was saying one of the biggest changes she’s seen in recent years is the number of children who say ‘no’ and simply refuse to follow any adult instruction. She said it used to be super rare but not now.

Flying solo in Brum today - the story so far (including free car insurance hot drink):

RIP to #Skype - to be honest, I didn't realise it was still going, but remember showing my Mum and Dad how to call the children and 'see' them. It was the future back in the day.

Watching the Batman Vs Superman Ultimate Edition because, well, because it's Wednesday.

A great former colleague of mine - SLT, English lead and SENDCo experience is available from Easter this year - if you have potential vacancies or cover in the Birmingham/Solihull and surrounding West Midlands areas they're more than a safe pair of hands - let me know.

Looking forward to Arbor-fest here in Brum come May. Who's coming?

I don't really think this, but sometimes it feels like some people expect you as a leader to know everything about their struggles and life through telepathy and osmosis whilst simultaneously seeing you as a one dimensional character defined only by your role.

ITT reaccreditation is apparently back on the table - but for those who lost it - what is the incentive? Do they still have capacity?

Happiest of birthdays Mrs S. Getting close to half our lifetimes together and still going strong. I made smash burgers by request and they were awesome if I don't say so myself!

You know what? If you want to talk about 'going through the ringer' then hit me up - I'm your person. I'm still standing.

Brumlife

As 'bar snacks' go - I've had worse

Out and about with the lovely Mrs S today - it's her birthday on Monday

@filmfanstevie.bsky.social Hey Stevie, have followed you from my Shakes account now. Some film stuff on here, but mostly work to be honest!

It's half term, which means I have a copy of Primary Reading Simplified to give away. Simply *repost* this post for your chance to win. I will choose a winner at random this Saturday (22nd February).

‘Why should we read aloud in class?’ “The teacher reading aloud and expertly modelling fluency (pace, expression, volume etc.) is likely a better bet than selecting underpractised pupils to read.” alexquigley.co.uk/who-should-r...

If you want serious posts I've been a little more prominent on LinkedIn. Visibility and that - I'm on my final run.
