Looking at the color version, I think the alternate version is growing on me. I love the subtle contrast of her hair to her fur along with her muzzle design...maybe try and make her hair just a tiny bit darker even! :)

Liberty was always supposed to be the symbol of hope, a welcoming to a land of freedom and opportunity...the way you portrayed it here is rather haunting and intimidating with the deep shadows and the star for one eye always watching...I LOVE this composition, and I wish all the best for you.
