It's like Martin is trying to find the midpoint between total utopian harmony and blood-thirty political assassination, and life just doesn't work that way and no one expects it to.

9. The Times has chosen to elevate anti-LGBTQ+ voices and platform hate groups while framing families seeking basic medical rights as extremists who have “pushed too far.” In doing so, the paper has abdicated its responsibility. Its failures will be a black stain on its legacy for a generation.

I don't know if it's a source of comfort or greater demoralization to know that we've been in this absurd place in our politics for quite a long time now.

We also want to honor the Black Panthers, incredible public health heroes.

This is what he did w/David Huerta, too. His Huerta video showed ICE picking up Huerta, knocking him into a curb on his head. He charged Huerta was conspiring to intimidate ICE officers, in part, for banging on 7-foot steel fence heavily armed officers were behind. www.emptywheel.net/2025/06/10/b...

The military was good for me: it socialized me and taught me important things about human nature and also I get free healthcare now Also I participated in something genuinely evil, which nothing can erase, and the same motherfuckers are on the brink of doing it again to a whole new generation

It treats DHS' changes as if they're not a violation of the law. It doesn't mention the many Dems (I can think of ~15) who've shown up, followed the existing rules, but been denied entry. It doesn't talk about ICE not feeding or housing detainees safely.

Seems like they want to bring back Debtor Prisons, and probably force them to work off their “debt”

There likely will be one, but once they have a real system in place to impose these fees, the challenge is that the law does authorize escalating monetary penalties for people who fail to depart after being ordered deported. bsky.app/profile/patr...
comment in response to post
One reason why this new regulation is so dangerous is that these fees have been in the law for decades. But they have essentially never been enforced before, because deportation was the goal, not civil monetary penalties. But now they want to start doing this as part of the “self-deportation” push.

One woman has already been hit with these absurd fees, which compounded for 20 years. The US government wants her alone to pay nearly $2 million. Add this up to the entire undocumented population and they could be demanding hundreds of billions in fees overall. www.nbcmiami.com/news/local/u...
