Today must be math day somehow. When Ss begin to understand the relationship between numbers as well as the fundamentals of addition & subtraction, they may struggle less later. www.edweek.org/teaching-lea...

I just mentioned Data Science 4 Everyone in my last Mental Peregrinations post (bit.ly/MP06102025). And here are math people addressing what needs to be changed in math curricula. #k12 #math #teaching #learning #education www.edweek.org/teaching-lea...

District & school leaders, as you're thinking about how to launch your 2025-2026 school year, think about reaching out to these folks: @mssackstein.bsky.social, @kevinhoneycutt.bsky.social, @shannonmmiller.bsky.social, @coolcatteacher.bsky.social. All great with different skills. #education

Yep, gotta love government efficiency. www.cnn.com/2025/06/09/p...

Next Saturday there will be at least 1,800 protests, on the same day as Trump’s authoritarian military parade. Millions are expected to attend. Trump’s trying to scare everyone into staying home, but he won’t be able to stop these peaceful protests. More here:

Still thinking about why and how we educate our students at all levels. Spoiler alert: There are no easy answers. #education #k12 #highereducation ejroberts.substack.com/p/examining-...

We've all seen so many articles about chronic absenteeism. When leaders ask families why their kids aren't in school, it's more possible to find solutions. ". . .be very wary of the unverified assumptions about what's going on with our families." Engagement & review can lead to policy changes ⬇️

"There's no immutable law that says automating labor means eliminating human workers." time.com/7290751/ai-f... #AI

The article may be subscriber-only so my fave fun stats: 66% of people around the world use AI regularly; 78% of orgs use AI; 46% of us trust AI; 35% of parents discuss AI with kids. It's the energy/environmental footprint we don't think about. The equivalent of power usage in the UK ⬇️

I think it was Orson Scott Card's book Ender's Game & following that I first learned about hegemony. Many of the books clanged then & have not aged at all well. Even so, I noted the "coercion and consent" elements. Some interesting insights here. theconversation.com/are-hegemoni...

From The New Yorker. When a settlement becomes bribery or a payoff? Just trying to understand.

#AI as a thought partner for educators: absolutely. Key points when using AI at any grade level, including college: "Brisk knows how to structure a lesson, but neither Brisk nor ChatGPT nor Gemini knows my class the way I know my class. . .

An interesting #AI study. phys.org/news/2025-05...

Another fave podcast is #CautionaryTales. In this episode, Steve Levitt, co-author of @freakonomics.bsky.social, joins Tim Harford with some insightful, sometimes funny observations. His research on organ donation is shocking. timharford.com/2025/04/caut...

Those who need to read this won’t or will scoff at it. The rest of us need to heed it. open.substack.com/pub/heatherc...

We’re watching transparency erode as law enforcement begins to resemble secret police more than public servants. This piece unpacks how we got here, and why it should alarm us all.

A fascinating episode about short wave & eyebrow-raising insight into VOA. I’ve signed up for the series. @99pi.org

A recent article in @newsweek.com. Apparently the justice system is "weaponized and politicized" unless it is whatever this administration deems as justice, and for whom. www.newsweek.com/full-list-do...

Homan seems like a real-life version of a bad guy character in far too many movies and books. The WH says "there's nothing wrong" bc its moral compass has been shattered. www.msnbc.com/top-stories/...

This is a senior Justice Department official. Who is in charge of pardons. And also in charge of investigating the “politicization” of the Justice Department.

Just sayin'. www.usnews.com/education/be...

We are the people of TL; DR and articles that offer up key ideas if we don't have time or don't want to read the whole article that is often published in a large font with generous leading. And we wonder about Gen Alpha. Huh.

Thank you @pbs.org. www.pbs.org/national-mem...

There is a lot to like about Cautionary Tales with Tim Harford. This episode is a Q&A, usually about trust. The observations about cognitive dissonance & cults (around 23:15) is quite fascinating. Enjoy. timharford.com/2025/03/caut...

As a frmr systems analyst, I can't help but think abt all the court decisions that are essentially, "Nope. You can't do that. Put it all back." & wonder how much MORE it's costing--in time & money--to clean up the chaos than it would've cost to have figured out how to do it right from the beginning.

I'm doing some early (!!) prep for my Literature, Community, & Human Flourishing class in the fall as I review notes before I forget what I meant. I found a Templeton World Charity Foundation video (youtu.be/PeSgS3Hyia4?...) I'll show to set the tone.

“The result is a $10,000 gain for Americans in the top 20% and a $800 loss for those at the bottom.”
