Brendan Reilly is full of shit. Zionism is evil, and Israel shouldn't exist. Neither of those statements says anything at all about Jews.

Pennies are super easy to destroy, they're made of zinc; hold one in the gas flame of a stove burner and the zinc will melt out of the thin layer of bronze.

Whatever their individual conscience and understanding leads them to, probably? Dogmatic atheism isn't any better than dogmatic Christianity.

I've been an atheist as long as I've known what the word meant, god, as a concept, never made any more sense to me than Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny, but "should all be atheists" is carrying things a bit far; evangelical atheism is why I couldn't get on board with Dawkins, Hitchens, Harris, et al

I'm honestly sorry I voted no on the recall, now. Might've ended up getting a less shitty Dem out of it.

So is she going to stop being a Zionist then, or are identity politics only okay for some people?
comment in response to post
To be fair, that's something Nazis do know a lot about.

Nah, fascists and their sympathisers can fuck off. (This includes anyone who thinks we need to listen to the "legitimate concerns" of people who vote for fascist parties.)

If they knew better they wouldn't be conservatives.

I think "scholars" is clearly not the word you should be using here.

The Atlantic has been normalising fascism for a while now.

Actually the Niemoller poem was more like "first they came for the queers, but I'm not going to mention them because I thought they got what they deserved" (Niemoller was kind of a piece of shit, honestly).

Maybe Harris shouldn't have supported genocide then? Not like this is hard. I blame Harris for being a shit candidate who went all-in on backing genocidal Israel and decided she could make up votes lost on the left by chasing Republicans (the whole Cheney thing? Monumentally stupid).
comment in response to post
Man, you really are a dumbfuck. People were saying "if Harris doesn't change her stance on Gaza it'll probably cost her the election" as soon as she became the candidate. It was OBVIOUS that it was a bad position! And she DID lose! And that's no-one's fault but hers and Democratic Party's.

Except Zionism isn't just 19th century nationalism. It's 19th century herrenvolk nationalism with exterminationist American-style Manifest Destiny settler colonialism bolted on. If Zionism had sought to establish an autonomous Jewish homeland in the Pale of Settlement, you might have a point.

"Wrong side" meaning "pro-genocide/ethnic cleansing"; Israel shouldn't exist as a state in the first place; its very existence requires ethnic cleansing and genocide. (And Zionist claims to the territory of Palestine have always been based on spurious nonsense.)

Black powder, the potential for a ten-chamber chain fire is honestly kind of terrifying. Would've fucked if not for the shitty technology of the time.

He believes Israel has the right to kill as many Palestinians as they feel necessary; other than that, not from what I've seen.

Liberals with an extensive case of brainworms, probably?

Even crazier how many of their parents have forgotten how to do that.

My 4th great-uncle was a saloon keeper in South Pass City, Wyoming, during the gold rush of the late 1860's; he was elected to the Wyoming Territorial Legislature, and introduced Wyoming's women's suffrage bill (the first to pass in the USA, in 1869).

"Blue wall" is more like "rusty chainlink fence with some blue paint in a few places" at this point. Every time I've heard that phrase this year I've had really bad 2016 deja vu.
comment in response to post
Either that, or they're deliberately trying to lose.

Not "misinformation" when Harris can only say "I support Israel's right to defend itself", "I won't call for an arms embargo", "I wouldn't do anything differently to Biden" on Gaza (where Israel is committing genocide), and only says "I will follow the law" on trans rights.

Losing the Muslim vote in Michigan and Wisconsin in 2024 vs 2020 has one explanation, and it isn't the economy.
comment in response to post
Unpopular prediction: Harris loses all of the swing states. Postmortem will show Gaza was the deciding issue ("most important" to c. 3% of the electorate, but Biden won swing states in 2020 by <1%.), with "the economy" a close 2nd (not helped by Israel's likely attack on Iran driving up gas prices).

Yep, just like Jimmy Savile and his charity work, or Bill Cosby's image as the clean-cut, "safe" family comedian and host of educational kids' shows.

Won't have the desired effect, as junk food alone isn't the cause of obesity (viruses have been implicated: pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC... )

Not to mention that most "antisemitism on the left" accusations are the result of a false equation of anti-Zionism and antisemitism (as if there's something reprehensible in leftists opposing the idea of a state founded on völkisch nationalism and built on stolen land and ethnic cleansing).

I don't think touting your endorsements from Dick Cheney and Alberto Gonzales is "pandering to the center".

Lester Bangs was also a transphobic and homophobic piece of shit, so he can stay dead.

It was pretty insane even into the late 1600's. You should read about how Charles II of England's physicians treated him on his deathbed (bleeding, cupping, enemas, emetics, purgatives, and "medicines" that contained ingredients like crushed pearls): revisehistory.weebly.com/uploads/6/3/...

Panel gaps are a thing for Teslas generally, they have terrible fit and finish and poor quality control to the point where they're notorious for it. It's like, late 1980s Eastern Bloc bad, the sort of thing you'd see in a Yugo, or something.

Especially since I usually have those people blocked, I don't *want* to see any of their posts *at all*, not even in a screenshot. Makes me resent whoever is forcing it on me.

Never much cared for Harry Potter, but I loved Neil Gaiman's stuff, ever since I first read Sandman more than 20 years ago. Since I discovered he's a rapist? My deep revulsion for the creator outweighs any feelings I may have had about his work.

The obvious answer is "stop supplying Israel because it's a rogue state engaging in genocide"? This isn't hard!

The sequel is also worth seeing, it's...entertainingly gonzo. Especially Dennis Hopper, wielding not one but *two* chainsaws.

According to this from the NYT (gift link) about Civil War reenactors, apparently not so much in terms of character development (and several of them say explicitly they don't want to think about the politics that led to the war, as if it can be divorced of context): www.nytimes.com/2018/07/28/s...

The Israelis have it coming; if they didn't want to be attacked they shouldn't have stolen the land in the first place.

A glottal stop isn't dropping the T, it's replacing it with a different sound than one produced frontally (cf "button", "Clinton", both of which I pronounce with a glottal stop).

Harris *also* wants to annihilate Palestine, or else she wouldn't be saying things like "no conditions on Israel".

I've been seeing my feed filled with pictures of dead children with their intestines hanging out and hospital patients hooked up to IV drips trying to escape their hospital beds while on fire, and you ask me to vote for a candidate who supports the country doing that? Get fucked.
comment in response to post
Sorry you're so morally vacant you call someone who's against *genocide* a "single issue voter".
comment in response to post
They're both all-in on supporting genocidal Israel, though. I care about all those things, but I'm not voting for genocide, either, regardless.
comment in response to post
She's clearly not campaigning to win the votes of people who are *against* genocide. She'd better hope those Republican votes she's so thirsty for can make up the difference on Election Day.
