Starting Pansy Studios a month ago was such an exercise in proving that actually, I am exceptionally good at what I do.
Just because LGBTQ+ talent (and indeed disabled talent) like me is being systematically deprioritised and devalued, it doesn't mean my work is lesser.
Anyway, hire me. I'm ace.

I say it all of the time but if you need a problem solved, ask a disabled person. We're full time problem-solvers because an inaccessible world is a full-time problem.
I never see it on screen, except in a 'disabled people have superpowers' way. We don't, we're just adept at fighting injustice.

That's approximately 1,608,000 people at the standard rate and 1,283,000 at the enhanced rate.
Thatâs several million disabled who will be subjected to poverty, pain, starvation, isolation and yes, death.

I think that is where we are heading, and one might even argue that we are close to arriving there, if you are trans in the UK.
You have notional legal rights but face consistent institutional discrimination and oppression, including in the courts. Your life shrinks. That is where we are today.

I'm reading the judgment, and I have some familiarity with what it is like to be trans having done advocacy for getting on for a decade, but *I* am struggling to analyse what it means for trans people in their real lives. That's, again, why trans representation matters.

For example, the Supreme Court is saying that a trans woman gets protection as a woman if she 'passes'. Whether that's right or wrong ethically it's totally at odds with the Supreme Court's blithe assertion that its decision 'is neither disadvantageous to nor removes protections from trans people'.

Especially as someone who keeps being told itâs the âwrong timeâ to cover LGBTQ+ topics or that the book is âtoo politicalâ, community support is HUGE

I spent five years researching and writing my book Outrage and some of the most perniciously violent language and rhetoric was found in UK policy and research documents.
Donât get complacent. Things are worse than ever for trans people.

Weâve got to get past seeing rampant anti-LGBTQ+ voices as âthe otherâ when theyâre fully integrated into society. Theyâre your friends, family & community.
