One of the most common mistakes in casting TV shows is to go with an actor who isn’t right for the role, simply because (s)he is a “known quantity,” while ignoring a much better option who is not. In unrelated news, Andrew Cuomo is running for mayor of NY, and he sucks.

I was in an Indian restaurant in London. Joanna Lumley came in, politely had the tables rearranged so that she could sit facing the door, and smiled at us as we looked at her. The food was great.

must be incredibly frustrating and disheartening to have federal funding that was promised to you for important work suddenly and arbitrarily ripped away

The conservative Democrats who think the Democratic Party talks too much about trans rights talk abut trans people far more than any other Democrats do. Just stop being an asshole to people, don't support policy that makes the state be an asshole, and talk about other issues if you want.

Andrew Cuomo, who leads in the mayoral polls, has a Trumpian belief in his own spurious talents and triumphs. His election would likewise be a disaster for everyone subject to his rule.

Why is this story not in an American paper Let’s tell more stories of how responsible governance can benefit more people and give them increased opportunities, instead of the supposed inevitably of the oligarchs having everything there is www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

Men are not constantly being told “you’re bad,” they are constantly being told “LEFT WING SJWS THINK YOU’RE BAD” by conservative propaganda. There’s a huge difference.

"New York mayoral candidate Andrew Cuomo worked as a paid adviser to an offshore cryptocurrency exchange as it dealt with a federal investigation before it pleaded guilty to operating illegally in the US, according to two people familiar with the matter." www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

The default Dem position should be that nothing under Trump is valid. Trump didn't honor his predecessors' agreements. He didn't even honor his own trade agreements. He didn't honor Congressional appropriations. He doesn't follow laws. Clean slate. If you rely on him, your loss.

Personally, I think it should be front page news for at least a month if a sitting US President is using falsified evidence to try and deny due process to a man who has committed no crime, but that’s just me

This headline needs to include the word “illegal”. As the article states, it is against the law for the president to order the IRS to target specific entities. Everyone is talking about how bad it is without talking about how it is 100% illegal www.nytimes.com/2025/04/18/u...

Either we all have due process, or none of us do. There is no middle ground here.

Reminders: "Concentration camps" aren't the same as "extermination camps." Both were/are horrific. Most Nazi camps were *outside Germany*, away from the eyes of German citizens. Those trains? Were to, uh, deport the category of people whose lives were deemed unimportant. Never again is now.

My translation of a viral Japanese meme summarizing decades of U.S. complaints about Japan not buying enough American cars (while not making the kind of cars Japanese consumers actually want):

This is a big deal. If you have an R rep, here's something real you can do! Call them and tell them to sign onto this resolution to NOT privatize the USPS! Find your rep here! reps.fyi

It's critical for everyone to remember what an Executive Order is. It is the President communicating orders to members of the executive branch. Policies to pursue, actions to take, etc. They are not laws. They are not close to being laws. They are formalized memos to employees. That's all.

Men are facing a loneliness epidemic. So why do Dems want to stop group chats where guys bond over shared military interests? By Ross Douthat

Every single Democrat in Congress should be demanding the resignation of Waltz and Hegseth. Every single one. This is a massive scandal. There should be a serious price to pay. AND THERE IS ZERO DOWNSIDE FOR EVEN THE MOST SCAREDY-CAT CONGRESSPERSON.

They claim they can snatch people up, put them on planes, and deport them to a country run by an authoritarian, where those people will be forced to work slave labor at an inhumane prison. All without due process, and in defiance of federal courts. The hypotheticals are over. This is the nightmare.

When ICE Administrator Homan says "We're not stopping. I don't care what the judges think." - that is exactly the evidence that I would want if I were bringing a contempt motion against him. The contempt is clear. I do not know what the court's response will be - and there are only bad choices.

Just as Putin, Orban and Trump all seem to recognize that tyrants have shared interests, so too we need to recognize that those who would be rid of tyrants too have shared interests that cross national borders.

These are the same Senate Democrats who lectured the base for years about the importance of preserving the filibuster so it would still be available when Democrats were in the minority

I’m old enough to remember the Repubs in the Senate using the filibuster on things such as voting rights & reproductive rights! The Senate Dems should hear from their constituents ahead of the vote… the R’s should be forced to negotiate & the only way is if they filibuster and hold the line.
