Thanks for your kind words Ola ☺️ Hadn't thought about the specific tie to girls being 'more willing' to report sx but that's a really interesting link.

Key takeaway? Research-related concerns are common amongst adolescents & have implications for data accuracy and completeness. Deliberate design & analysis that incorporates this complexity are needed to ensure we are accurately capturing the voices of all young people.

πŸ—οΈ MISSING DATA was more common amongst those who reported that their concerns affected their accuracy (aORs wrt those not reporting impacted accuracy = 1.53 - 3.38). πŸ—οΈ Substantial VARIATIONS in SCORE distributions on measures of mental illness & adversity according to presence/absence of concerns.

πŸ—οΈ Concerns were MORE PREVALENT amongst gender diverse students (aOR wrt boys = 5.7), gender non-disclosing students (aOR = 4.4) & girls (aOR = 2.5) BUT gender diverse adolescents less likely to report that their concerns prevented them from answering accurately. πŸ—οΈ Less variation by age/ethnicity.

πŸ—οΈ 46.0% (8,160/17,729) of students endorsed β‰₯1 concern related to privacy, confidentiality, and data use & 28.8% (5,300/17,729) β‰₯2. πŸ—οΈ 29.2% (2,379/8,160) of those with concerns reported that their concern(s) prevented them from answering '100% accurately'.

Feeling hopeful that these findings can help bring the #youthvoice to the fore in service design, implementation & evaluation & looking forward to learning with stakeholders about next steps for improving the accessibility & acceptability of #mentalhealth support for our young people 🌻

We've had the privilege over the past year of discussing these networks with services, third sector orgs, schools, policymakers & others and have worked together to understand how to take action based on these findings.

Key findings (cont.): πŸ—οΈ GROUPS OF CONCERN 5 | #Gender diverse & gender non-disclosing adolescents accessed many types of support but found them generally less helpful than did their peers. 6 | Adolescents who didn't find their parent/carer helpful found very little else helpful either.

Key findings (cont.): πŸ—οΈ HELPFULNESS 3 | Friends & family were perceived as *most* helpful (incl. for adolescents w/ #mentalhealth difficulties). 4 | #CAMHS and helpline/online support were perceived as *least* helpful (ESP. for adolescents with #mentalhealth difficulties).

Key findings: πŸ—οΈ PATTERNS OF ACCESS 1 | Many adolescents report having accessed #mentalhealth support in the last year (27% of our @oxwell.bsky.social sample) & around half of these have accessed 2+ types. 2 | Friends & family were most common, followed by schools & then health & social care.
