I just started reading The Survival of the Fittest by Pamela Hansford Johnson. A writer I have really enjoyed previously. She is great at weaving a good old saga. This story of a group of friends from the 1930s to the 1960s seems right up my street. 💙📚

The Master Key was such a good read. Secrets, jealousies, loneliness, and despair abound in this unusual Japanese crime novel originally published in 1962. 💙📚

OMG OMG Some of your may remember the time I grew hostas from seed? The biggest one was named Hosta-Bob. I gave them all to @kbspangler.com when I moved, and now Hosta-Bob has FLOWERED! And is getting big!

🥺 I received official notice that my NIH grant, "Early Characterization of Cognitive Status & AD Risk in African American Men," has been terminated. I have no clue how to process the news. Nonetheless, I remain committed to this line of inquiry & advancing research on Black men’s brain health.

Speaking medical lingo can really help in getting right advice from GP. I do wonder how some fare with e-consult service and the like. No discredit to primary care colleagues doing an unenviable job in an immensely pressured system using all options to manage the load.

Super excited about this new podcast, brought to you by @yhpsrc.bsky.social, where I'll be talking to people who've shaped healthcare safety in the UK & beyond. The first episode is a corker - I sit down with @shaunlintern.bsky.social to talk about journalism, harm, and Staffordshire oatcakes... 👇

The Orange Notebooks is a beautifully written novel that deals with the most difficult of griefs, a parent's loss of their child. Exquisitely told and ultimately offering hope. Along with bees and beige. Loved it. Another winner from @ofmooseandmen.bsky.social @susannacrossman.bsky.social

And then there were two... Pooh! Actually one is the first edition, one is the second.

Today is National Biscuit Day, and it’s about time that I populated this account with biscuit (cookie) sets from the past few years. Here are some of my favourites. 🧵 First up, a set inspired by the delicious designs of William Morris and John Henry Dearle.

The V&A Storehouse will give Londoners and visitors free access to an extraordinary collection of creative works, from Roman artefacts to modern-day music archives. I was delighted to see final preparations being made before it opens its doors to the public on Saturday.

Warrington museum truly generous in showing me some of their woodblock print collection including works by utagawa kumisada and katsushika hokusai. Depicting theatre/acting scenes. Colours so vibrant.

Can't recall who recommended this. But this book by Brian Moore is excellent. Many grotesque and sad characters. Packs quite a punch. #booksky
