If you prick her, she does not read.

This youtube short shows similar cloud formations from yesterday. www.youtube.com/shorts/-p_Rf... Maybe the pic has been enhanced somehow, but I don't think it is from a different event.

Tolkien's writing.

It lands so hard when you say the city names with the appropriate accent.

I didn't catch it either until I saw the comments on the original post.

It's satire. Her point is that the city names are literally Spanish, because they are all in the area that used to be part of Mexico.

Yeah, I think most people today don't understand how carefully crafted American slavery was to encode the intrinsic lesser nature of Africans and their descendants into law. And how it incentivized rape to create more slaves.

He preyed on a teenage girl, among a laundry list of other shit. I don't care how smart he is, in addition to being a terrible human being he is a fucking LIABILITY. We can find candidates who aren't convicted sex offenders.

I'm beginning to believe he's being blackmailed.

So another full-blown pandemic, then.

These are both very handsome frogs, and I think it is super nice of them to help us do science.

Yep. That's how they justify privatizing the FAA.

You know it's a dominance display. You know it.

Yeah, he also doesn't care if it's a complete money pit to run if it is fulfilling his authoritarian fantasies. Will absolutely do it if he is permitted by Congress.

Even accepting the premise that AI produces useful writing (which no one should), using AI in education is like using a forklift at the gym. The weights do not actually need to be moved from place to place. That is not the work. The work is what happens within you.

Holy shit. Is this a program to indenture soldiers to Rwanda?

Also he gives multiple examples of instances where he HAS to discuss politics because it's relevant to his class. The whole thing would have been better fodder for an article titled "Even in Comp Sci, I Have to Teach Politics."
comment in response to post
Sorry, I was being ridiculously pedantic. You used the word "improbable", and hey, at least this involved a baseball? As opposed to an arthropod in someone's ear canal.
comment in response to post
The avoidance of discussion of disciplines where political topics are integral to the subject is glaring. What takeaway is anyone teaching a humanity meant to get from that article? How exactly are historians meant to avoid politics? Gender studies? Sociology? Have a seat, IT guy.

You said you met them, implying courtesies were exchanged and introductions. We the literal amongst your followers are wondering if you met Cactus Jerome, or perhaps Cactus Matilda.

"Some of his actions are legal" is the stupidest thing to say. That phrase could be applied to Jeffrey Dahmer. There is no despicable figure in the history of the world you can't say that about, because hey, everyone has to eat lunch and take a shit sometime.

Dude, someone once pulled a moth out of a player's ear. It is not the most improbable thing.

And of what use is this?

One of my takeaways from that article was the desperate hope that kid gets rehomed, preferably to never see Gaiman again. Of all the scandals we've seen, yeah, that article was just... beyond the pale. So many different kinds of disgusting and horrific.

An exhibit lionizing Clarence Thomas.

And he thinks he can legit get away with that lie because HE has no personal knowledge of grocery expenses. Doesn't occur to him that the rest of us are actually going to the store.

"why don't you have a wife yet?" I'm leaving these happy women the fuck alone. Fuck the fertility rate. Let the species die, there'll be some really clever embroidery to interpret when the raccoon archaeologists finally get there.

Right there with you. I told my husband to move that pile of dirt...

Wait, is Kristi Noem the Queen of England? Is it against protocol to turn your back on her? Or is she one of those Weeping Angels from Dr Who and she'll steal your soul?

Wow, David Brooks finally noticed that leopards are, indeed, eating his face.

Yeah, I get that, but the minority leader of the House has a platform and actions he, individually, could take. It's fine to say that the public needs to act, it's that he is saying it while failing to act himself.

Love how he just made it "the public"'s job to stand up to T, not his own.

Since the game didn't come out until 2022, I think they want to give him a heads up that Annihilation has been video game exploited/pirated. Outrage!
comment in response to post
I dunno. Chamberlain actually believed Hitler could be appeased. I'm not sure Roberts has any such belief -- but he's providing cover for T anyway.

They must have scoured the earth to find healthcare workers with the mindset they wanted to work in that place.

I've been saying for a while that we should be making comparisons to Pol Pot, not Hitler.

Robert E. Lee Was A Great Guy Really Slavery Wasn't That Bad, They Were Part of the Family The Real Issue Was [Not Slavery] -- conversations I had repeatedly growing up in the Deep South.

If they had met traitors' ends we'd have a different country today.

being treated like you are just BETTER, maybe you believe it. Maybe that is what is wrong with all of these assholes. Having the purchasing power to obtain obsequious customer service at all points has left them with this belief that they deserve the treatment on merit.

I went to a really nice hotel for my honeymoon. And I realized I wasn't paying for the facility, I was paying for how they treated me like I was the second coming of David Bowie. Like I was genuinely better than the rest of the human race. And I realized, if you are ALWAYS in places like that,
