Of course they overreacted. This what you get when the rule of law goes to hell and there's no accountability. Look at the way that Southern "lawmen" treated blacks in the South. Even if they got arrested, which rarely happened, no white jury would ever convict them.

The Constitution makes pardoning power seemingly unlimited, but it can be (and should be) grounds for impeachment. If we take the House back next year, I say impeach this dope again. It won't go anywhere, but history should record what a shithead The Lump was and is to this day.

1972 was my first pres. vote. The Vietnam War was raging, and McGovern seemed viable for about a day and a half. But still, like with Trump, I couldn't believe that the country would elect Tricky Dick (In a landslide, as you correctly point out.)
