"Fascism doesn't just take down the oppressed, it doesn't just come for the people it's trying to control; it inevitably destroys the people who have worked the hardest to build it" — #Andor creator Tony Gilroy

Remember that authoritarians are always trying to create crises or take advantage of existing crises as a "state of exception," which gives them more power and abrogates any established restraints.

Trump doing crazy stuff is a ratings bonanza for the mainstream media. But they’ll grow tired of it eventually and start promoting the opposition to drive new stories. Conflict is good for there business. They definitely set the narratives. There’s a reason it’s called the 4th estate of power.

Remember during Obama’s tenure when the mainstream media entertained the ridiculous birther conspiracy. Then gave endless coverage of the fake Tea Party movement. He barely got a honeymoon phase. The press created an opposition almost immediately after he got elected. It’s all about ratings.

I can’t think of 1 public figure the media hasn’t been able to ruin. It’s part of there sick game. There’s a honeymoon phase and then the rapture. Whenever they turn on Trump it will be nasty. They do it to every administration. Build up a one-sided narrative and then switch gears.

We all got a front row seat to it during Biden’s final two years. The media completely turned on him. Every article mentioned his aging decline. Zero focused on his infrastructure bill or how the economy had bounced back. They ruthlessly tore him down instead. That’s what they do best.

I’m not a fan of mainstream media but they will turn on Trump when it’s convenient for them. As his poll numbers decline they’ll need to gin up ratings. Enter impeachment and comparisons to Nixon resigning. If there’s one thing the media loves more than building someone up, it’s tearing them down.

Tomorrow we’ll be out on the streets for the No Kings protests. You can join our campaign in rallying against fascism in Evanston from 10 to 12 and Des Plaines from 1 to 3. See you there! www.mobilize.us/katforillino...

As a four-decade veteran of the daily journalism business, let me tell you: Every competent political reporter in this country knows that Trump is trying to establish a dictatorship. The industry's shame is that so few journalists will say so, and the ones who do lose their jobs.

THE US MILITARY IS NOW ARRESTING PEOPLE IN LOS ANGELES

Can’t believe this footage is from my country

One aspect of authoritarianism though, that doesn’t get mentioned enough is physical abuse against others, often done publically. Canning people, hitting them, all kinds of intimidation. That’s stuff you see in areas of the world where humans don’t have any rights at all. Scary it’s happening here.

The physical abuse that goes on in this country is awful and traumatic. I don’t get it. Does it make some men feel more manly to beat others? Well, it’s wrong. Tolerating it is also wrong. Really sets a poor example when you see public figures doing it. It’s absolutely not a Christian principle.

Hitting and tackling a US Senator should be a crime, no? As it should be against any non-violent human. When did that standard get thrown out the window? Where you can just manhandle anyone you don’t like. Messed up. That’s not the country I was raised in. Nor is it Christian behavior.

Newsom on Trump's military parade: "It's a vulgar display. It's the kind of thing you see with Kim Jong Un, you see it with Putin, you see it with dictators around the world that are weak ... Weakness masquerading as strength ... that's about as small as it gets ... that's Donald Trump."

Newsom: "Speaker Johnson -- his eloquence was elevated when he called to 'tar and feather' the governor of California. Very religious man. I guess that's the spirit. The word of the Lord."

I can’t think of anything more unmanly than men who bring chaos to situations rather than calm. Politics aside, the idea people want a leader who’s crazy, has crazy ideas, behaves like a crazy person is something I will never understand. Even if it’s a Cult. Still don’t get the appeal.

shoutout to every idiot who believed that trump would "end the wars"

Yes, just imagine.

Thank you for speaking out.

Remember when Tech bros said Trump was the peace candidate? Kiev is getting smashed to pieces. Gaza is in complete rubble. And now a war in Iran is breaking out. The world is more out of control than ever. Is this libertarianism? Watching the planet burn at a distance.

there’s got to be some kind of statute of limitations on this crap. I get moral hazard, I get all of that, it’s just completely insane to say that this guy who built an American life for 30 years isn’t American.

You know who didn't identify themselves? The thugs who assaulted Senator Padilla.

Reached ZERO trade deals. Ended/stopped ZERO wars. Militarized troops AGAINST citizens.

The head of the department of homeland security announced that she planned to use military force to take over a democratically elected government in the state of California and we are arguing about whether a California Senator properly identified himself at the door.

We’ve got two compelling modern examples of guys clinging to power indefinitely, in Putin and Netanyahu. And they just so how happen to be buddies with Trump. Hope it doesn’t happen here but scary parallels. Militarization of society and consolidation of power should frighten everyone.

That’s my biggest fear with Trump. He knows what happened to him last time he left office. Does he leave willingly in 2028? or if he’s impeached before would he resign? That’s the scariest thing to think about it. Power extended indefinitely. Because if that happens it’s really over for democracy.

Important to realize why Democracies should have hard term limits on Presidential (or Prime Minister) power. If a guy gets in power who’s crazy & never sees a war he doesn’t like, it becomes impossible to get rid of them. Because they know if they leave they’ll be powerless & vulnerable to charges.

Whether Israel is attempting regime change in Iran or not is irrelevant. It’s all about ensuring Netanyahu stays in power indefinitely. So he avoids any kind of justice. He’s been in power for 17yrs. (w a gap before 2009). That’s similar to Putin. Who also refuses to step aside & prolongs his reign.

My take on Iran Conflict: Netanyahu is trying to keep the war machine going, that obliterated Gaza. It’s strategic, so he can avoid accountability for war crimes. Other historical examples of this behavior. To stay in power a guy just keeps starting new wars, creates a permanent state of emergency.

Newsom’s chances of becoming the next President, assuming free and fair elections still exist, probably went from 0 to 50% this week. He does pretty well when he’s criticizing evil and steering clear of trans issues. Not an ideal candidate by any means but at least he isn’t a coward toward Trump.

None of these BlueSky slam pieces ever address the constant racial harassment bc they’re written by people who don’t experience it

Reuters: US JUDGE BLOCKS ENFORCEMENT OF PRESIDENT TRUMP'S EXECUTIVE ORDER REQUIRING CHANGES TO FEDERAL ELECTIONS

Possible to start to tell a unified story: "Trump is personally too old, crazy, and confused to run things, so at any given time the question is which co-president is in charge. At first it was Musk, & we got the crazy chaotic DOGE era. Then Navarro: a trade war that crashed markets. Now Miller..."

NEWSOM: "It's a vulgar display. It's the kind of thing you see with Kim Jong Un, Putin, dictators that are weak… How weak do you have to be to commandeer the military for your birthday?“

This guy is just posted up outside of Congress and I’m honestly not sure what his political views are but I agree

Bank robbers wear masks. Gang members wear masks. Bad guys wear masks. Are people dumb enough to now believe the opposite is true? Nobody doing anything legal or breaking a moral code is wearing a mask in public as a job. That’s what literal criminals do. How can anyone be that naive???

I don’t know how anyone who’s not insane thinks it’s morally okay to snatch humans off the street like a kidnapping & then disappear them. Legally here or not. That’s messed up and frightening. How do silent people justify that? How do you know regular citizens aren’t be taken too? Evil evil stuff.

"They took her in a car, in essence kidnapping her ... I met another young woman whose husband has quite literally disappeared" -- Newsom shares harrowing details of specific cases of ICE terrorizing immigrants in California

I no longer view the crisis before us as a GOP vs. Democrat issue, and I haven't for a long time. This is a profound issue of choosing to fight supremacist politics, of necropolitics-- of whether you believe it's worth protecting people's right to live with a measure of dignity and respect, period

This feels like we’re in an episode of Andor and the Republic is falling into darkness. Chilling what’s going on.

Newsom: "He's been a stone cold liar about what he said we talked about. He never discussed the National Guard. Period. Full stop. I would love to share with you what he actually talked about. It would send shivers up your spine."

Fell behind on Andor, so am catching up. Watched Episode 9 this evening. You know. The wild one where they arrest a Senator after manufacturing a fake crisis that required the military to put down protestors. So unrealistic.

“Two people deeply familiar with the Charleston 787 plant told the Prospect they had particularly acute quality concerns over planes that were delivered to Air India.” 😱

(Reuters) - On the campaign trail, U.S. President Donald Trump promised to end the world's hottest conflicts and usher in global peace, but nearly five months in, with Israel attacking Iran and bloodshed in Gaza and Ukraine unabated, those hopes are in shambles. www.reuters.com/world/middle...
