Many of these were somewhat course corrected in the kids born following that period, when we had a better idea of the impact those things had on them. 2/2

I have a pet theory that the micro generation of people born 2000-2010 have had the worst of it - unrestricted screens at a young age, unrestricted access to social media, covid hitting at crucial schooling years, and now AI everywhere in the years where critical thinking is honed. 1/2

A clarification- the medication to cure hep c does exist and it's an antiviral (not gene therapy). They're just citing it as an example of a recent medication that works "too well".

Yes! My 9yo son is so good with little kids and I keep encouraging him to think about being a babysitter in a few years. There's also a glass escalator scenario for men in these roles - advancement can be easier because people want to encourage them/defer to them (e.g., men in nursing)

Similarly my response to getting rid of grad TAs is how do you think we start learning how to teach? But maybe they don't think of teaching as a skill

Our department meeting yesterday felt like the forceful off gassing of a pressure cooker. We weren't mad at each other but stress was emanating from everyone.
